Are you trying to say that there is no way possible to show if a player is good defensively except by the eye test? - manvanfan
The eye test says Bergeron & Kopitar are good. Stats are so subjective but stars stand out without them. |

Stats are subjective but the eye test isn’t? I have a hard time buying that. We’re fans, which I believe derives from fanatics, which doesn’t scream subjectivity. We bring bias to every game we watch, players we like, players we don’t, etc, which impacts how we perceive the game.
It’s fine to disregard stats and rely solely on what your eyeballs tell you, millions of fans do exactly that and they are just as passionate as anyone. But it’s not subjective. |

What are you kidding? Most fans can't even see the "little things". Explains why LE is still playing in the NHL and no one can understand why. |

They would change up when the puck was going into defensive zone, causing a goal against. They did this their whole career and it was a tendency that the young players were carrying on last season and lo and behold Sedin's are gone and that puss poor habit has changed.
I swear I dislike the Sedin's style, more than Vantel.😠 - Reubenkincade
Because they had the puck for a minute in the offensive zone. |

I wasn't comparing players. I was comparing one player from his previous season. |

No, I'm trying to say that using PDO or oisv% as a metric for Sutter playing poorly doesn't make sense.

I can’t tell if you are agreeing with me or disagreeing. But LE is a good example. His crazy bad contract makes it almost impossible to see that he provides low impact safe minutes. It’s not worth what he gets paid, but ignoring his contract he’s a legit NHL player. I still fcking hate him though. |

I was agreeing with you in a sarcastic way. Most fans can't see what happens in a game. They can't keep track of everything during the game. Stats if anything help a fan understand the game more.
Exactly why after 10 games of the season Canucks fan's start planning the parade and then things fall off. Stats tell us every year that while the wins pile up for the first little bit, it isn't sustainable. |

I'm only quoting you a second time to answer the second part.
I really don't love or hate any player in the NHL. I have no bias. Each player has a value to a team. That's it. |

you do have a choice , but my point is more towards the guys who re-sign and sign early and are team guys, guys who bail or are more about money and other things are not what i want to see , |

we need a culture of privilege to be a Canuck and to have passionate , sometimes irrational fans, but to see people say mean and untrue hateful rhetoric on sites like this because they don't like a player or his underlying #s is not what i see as a strong fan base
fans should expect their choice of words to possibly impact the team and players, and try to speak accordingly |

Not too many of my friends ask me why. They watch the game and say the team sucked last night didn't they ? I agree yup end of story.
