Q Going back to St. Louis or Philadelphia? |
|
|
|
Maybe after 2015 and even some of those trades are debatable. Kind of hard to debate that his trades and signings were awful, prior to that...I'll give you the Kimmo trade. It's really, really hard to debate that he kept the wrong players through 2015.
He'll end up going too here at some point, maybe at year's end if Colliton comes in and can't wring anything out of the current crew. Easier to change the coach than 20 some odd players.
If he can fix special teams, that alone would likely make them more competitive.
An interesting year just got more interesting. - HawkintheD

Not long. He'll be moved upstairs next to daddy. Hopefully a new GM will take charge of the rebuild. I do not trust Stan to do it. Steve Izerman anybody ?????? - Hawkytalk
That's my thoughts as well Stevie Y I believe he is available and did a fantastic job in Tampa. He is very determined to not give out contracts with huge salaries and no movement clauses or trade clauses. Something Stan did frequently that has really cost this team .
Coach Q wasn't the problem , it's clear Stan is the bigger issue , with his personnel signings and his finger prints all over this team and his hiringmulf and dineen.... |

Q's shelf life is over as all coaches are eventually. Perhaps Bowman is fired next? It will be interesting to see if the new coaching staff can do anything with the current team. One advanbtage is there are no loyalties to anyone so playing time will be re-earned. The last time the Hawks fired a coach early in the season the Hawks came into their own. Let's see what Colliton and his staff can do, especially in utilizing the guys in Rockford.
That said Q was the best guy for the Hawks for their run until 2015. He will be called into the HOF and he is fully deserving. - paulr
Geez, hard to believe Q couldnt win with defenceman like Gustaffson, Manning and Rutta manning the blueline.
It was coming like it does for all coaches eventually and he wont have been surprised. |

Ulf is a dope, wasn't very articulate when interviewed between periods so it is no wonder he's gone. Q's blankies finally cost him. Guess Rocky got tired of seeing that pathetic toreador defense. - savvyone-1
Thank you Hawks. I never again have to listen to a totally unenthusiastic, uninterested Ulf give an interview. It was painful to watch. |

The fu%#*@& abomination that has been the special teams is what got Q canned. Indeed the team improves with even slightly better special teams.
Colliton is now the youngest head coach in the NHL.

Well this is a sad day in one way, and a happy day in another way. It is very sad to see Q go. I knew Colliton was being groomed for this job, I just didn't expect Q to fall this early. I will always view him as the greatest coach in Blackhawks history, and the memories will be cherished.
It's a very happy day in the way that Colliton is an excellent up and coming coach who knows how to get the best out of young players. He knows how to develop, and I think this is a great move for the long term. |

No he doesn’t. He had great success in Europe. - Z3Hawk
While successful he didnt have much time as a coach in Sweden though...
Dude is crazy young, but has some real upside... I'm excited for him.

The microscope now shifts to StanBow? .......... The Boqvuists/Beaudins/Wise/Gilberts/Mitchells (Hawks rebuild pieces) will have new and fresh eyes and a modern approache (Colliton is 33 yrs old!) orchestrating the new way/style. - Mr Ricochet
He was drafted by the Islanders the same year as Seabrook. Lol |

Wow. This is crazy.
The end of an era.
Stan saving his job (for now) with this move. - Justin Lowe
Maybe, or Rocky could be following the age-old business strategy of firing the executioner last. Make him make some unpopular trades, then clean him out, too.

Said it years ago, right place at the right time kind of guy. As Powerenforcer said, if he goes somewhere else and wins then he deserves to be in the hall of fame. - 6628
Love Q. He's straight up and honest but you are correct, timing is everything. Hope he moves on and has great success but that doesn't mean firing him was wrong.
Simply said it was time for new and fresh eyes to age old problems. A new approach is needed.

Possible. Though I'm thinking it was a PP where the team killing the penalty often had better looks at Crawford. - HawkintheD
I was torn on that one D. But I agree, it was and has been brutal for a long time. And we know/knew from pressers that it was Q's way (from the mouth of Dineen several times). Only Q would put a guy incapable of getting shots through or on net literally in forever on the 1st PP. But he did.
At least this was done "soon enough" to give them a shot at making the playoffs. I couldn't stand watching them any more as it was always the same old tired things (like the great push-em-back PP entry).
Super creative. |

Excuse me but Q is going to the HOF. This team has been mismanaged since Dale Talon was dismissed. I hope Rocky is reading all these comments and more. The decisions that need to be made are severe ones but the sooner they are initiated the better. This past road trip just puts us one step closer to a good draft pick, and a good draft pick is the best result this season can bring. - Garn.
You want Bowman fired - fine - I wouldn't disagree.
But I doubt any team that has been mismanaged for the last 10 years ever won a Cup, let alone three. |

Q is under contract through 19-20 at $6 M per year. The only place he’s going is to Colorado to ski. And maybe as an NHL Network commentator during the playoffs.
And then to the HOF. |
