No - 6 wins 9 losses - under the old pre-OT rules, the team would have been 3-6-6=12 points in 15 games.
Well, it's the "new" OT system, so yes, 6-6-3, but only 3 of 15 games won in regulation, and only 6 total wins in 15 games.
That's not .500. - StLBravesFan
The 3 of 15 stat is the stat that jumps out to me. The Hawks have taken 15 opening face-offs and only 3 times have they had the lead 60 minutes later. |

Use the scoring system that exists, not one of your own creation just because you don't agree with the way it's done.

Winning is the cure all but they're gonna take a hit for the next month at least for letting Q go. They're gonna have to work very hard to get the fans to buy into this.
I've been listening to ESPN radio all morning at work and all everyone has done, including the host David Kaplan, has said the teams fall is on Stan Bowman NOT Coach Q for putting the team together. Not to say that Q didn't have a part in things, but you can only work with what you are given as we have all debated for years.
Even Eddie O when he came on was shocked and upset by the move. I think the Bowman's are gonna make A LOT of enemies by doing this move.
Rocky needs to get a handle on things at the press conference today before things start snowballing in an even worse way - Savetheembers33
I think it is more of a shock than that it will be all that bad. After losing in round one 2016....getting embarrassed in 2017 by Nashville, and then missing the playoffs last year...there was gonna be a move like this if they didn't come out the gate well. Stan didn't make all the right moves lately, but we'd be kidding ourselves if we said Q got the most out of the roster in recent seasons. The Hawks currently position isn't all on Q and it isn't all on Stan or any one person, but the current situation after this road trip, was embarrassing.

How about a new Kruger deal while he's at it?

I have more questions than answers with this Joel Quenneville news.
One thing is for certain that he will not be long without a job. If he wants a little time off, maybe he heads to Seattle to be their 1st ever coach. |

OK - then .500 is not a good number under the "new" system.
If it takes 96 +/- points to make the tournament, you need to play at a .600 level to do so. |

I didn't think Jeremy Colliton was ready just yet, but knew the #blackhawks liked him a lot.
I just hope they are not Trent Yawney-ing him.

Indeed, and he was given Daley and Kempny, ran em out on a rail, and their new coaches used them in roles that saw them win a cup that SAME yr.
As horrid as the D has been the last 2 yrs this sequence had to be used as a battering ram against Q inside the organIzation.

Bowman still has to release him. As long as he is paid by the Hawks he will be holding down a bar stool. |

Do Blackhawks own Quennevilles rights till 2019-20? If they do so other team must acquire his rights to land him as a head coach..right? |

Sheldon Brookbank is an assistant. I can see a former Hawk being named another assistant to replace King. Or maybe Sheldon's brother and former Hog player Wade. |

I have no use for moral victories, or learning experiences. You learn in the AHL. In the NHL it is about wins and losses. From my perspective, Crow and Ward (in a very limited role) are a good tandem. If you can cut down on the number of insanely high danger shots, I think they win you more games than you lose.
The PP and PK have to improve. If they can get to middle of the pack on both, I see that as a win.
My biggest gripe with putting Colliton in there is that you have Barry Smith there as an assistant. I'm sure he is a great guy, but did Colliton have any say in that decision. I want him to have full reign over this team so that he can put his stamp on it. If he swims, great, we have a good coach. I just have this horrible feeling that it will be a mish-mosh of voices and no one really knows who is pulling the strings because everyone up top is trying to save their jobs. - Chunk
Great points. Do you remember what happened with the assistants when Johnston came up from the AHL in season and won a cup with the Pens?

Dude, I was just being factual here.
You want to go by that, then fine. He's finished under .600 six times since 2005. Only missed the playoffs twice (3 if you include this year, but he only got 15 games so...)
He had been a head coach for a decade before he missed the playoffs even once.
Point isn't that he should have kept his job, just that his career numbers are very, very, very good. |

He is under contract to the Blackhawks through the 19-20 season at $6M per year. They would have to release him from that contract if he were to go somewhere else. |

He was relieved of his coaching duties. It not 'at will' employment, Q has a contract. The contract is still valid unless they mutually agree to dissolve it, which would happen only if someone else was going to hire him, probably for what he's making ($6M per year). |

Of course they are - no question.
Only question is - is he the right coach for this team at this time? A team that really isn't currently set up to challenge for a Cup (or maybe even for a playoff spot), that is in at least partial rebuild mode, that requires more player development at the NHL level than it does team management skill.
I doubt that he's lost his skill at all - it's just that his skill is in taking talented teams to the top - not developing "untalented" teams into winners. I think he'd be good at St. Louis - an underperforming but skilled (with flaws) team that could (with their roster) go on a long(er) playoff run.
Ottawa - no, Seattle - no, LA - probably not.
Chicago - I doubt it. |
