Ha ha. Seriously though. He looked good in that game we played against them. He's up there for points for DMen. |

It’s been a great 10 years and going to miss Q and happy with the Cups he helped to win.
The nail I think? Certain moves like forgetting to put someone in the box, giving up 21 shots in the 3rd , possibly pulling the goalie too early and overall losing the game after a 2-goal lead late in the second.
The team looked out of place in quite a few periods such as giving up 30 plus shots against TB in one period, the third period in Edmonton and that third period in Calgary. I think that falls on the coaching staff. Further, the stretch passes weren’t working, the power play and penalty kill were atrocious. All these signs pointed he or Kevin/Ulf needed to go regardless of the personnel. Hartman, Vinnie and DuClair appear to be doing better on their new teams, which would be much needed points on the bottom six- I’m not sure how much this bears on Q/staff though.
Bowman has made some terrible moves recently- losing on the Saad trade, the jury is still out on the Murphy trade but it isn’t positive at this point and the not-helpful signings in the off-season. Time will tell, but I’m not exactly happy with the Boqvist pick (he does have 11 points in 11 games though with the Knights) either because it seemed too much of a risk with the concussions and the other players still available looked more attractive. I’m not a scout, so hopefully I’m wrong about that. He’s definitely part of the recent set of problems too.
I’m interested to see how the team responds.

Chabot is a stud, he's on my fantasy squad. 3G 14A in 14 games and the #5D in Fantasy Hockey and he's 21 years old....even Ottawa isn't that stupid.... |

Yes, and before we get into those guys being a problem in the locker room; any player that has played at a somewhat high level has convos with teammates like that. It happens so often, that those guys really are not in the wrong. It's an environment where guys make fun of each other all the time. None of what they said was wrong either. Those guys are tired of not having direction in these special teams meetings. The players are openly discussing how their system does not work, on either the PK or PP. Can you imagine what the hawks players are saying about their PP?!?!?!? |

So where is Bowman ranked among current NHL gm's and where is Q ranked among current NHL coaches? Travesty. |
|
|
|
Well a change had to be made but long term I don't think a new coach will make a big difference with this team. They just are not talented enough. |

With Q getting fired it showed again they don’t care about you unless you are making them money.

even the great scotty bowman got fired once...only once in his career...he quit rather than wait to be fired...smart man...
and there is no way in hell that stanbow gets canned with his father in the house...
McD calls this a "remodel" rather than a rebuild...ok...well once he gets into the walls of this team...it will be aww poop...tear it all down.
this team with the schedule they got ahead of them could absolutely implode over the next 2-3 weeks. |

It was time for Q to go. However, it is also time for Bowman to go. Q will go down as arguably the greatest coach the Hawks have ever had. He was a legend in this town, but all great things must come to an end, and Q clearly has had problems in the last few years with management and playing and staying confident in young players. Players like Kunitz and Rozsival come to mind that continued to see time when young players would sit or not play much at all for Q. Will miss Coach Q, but I have no problems with this decision today. The Hawks are not contenders, but a team that needs to start injecting some serious youth into their roster. I don't know how keen Q is to that type of team. Yes, the veteran core remains, largely because of contracts that are virtually impossible to trade. Ideally, it would be nice to pedal them off and have money freed up, but teams are not just not going to take high priced contracts unless the Hawks sweeten deals. Right now, the Hawks cannot afford to give up good young players in deals because of the need to start a rebuild. Lastly, Mike Ditka and Ozzie Guillen were fired after leading their teams to world championships. Not fun to lose a coach as popular as Q, but it was time for him to move on. Yes, the GM should be gone too, but maybe this puts Bowman on notice on actually trying to improve his roster and not adding the garbage he did this past offseason that Q was working with on a daily basis. |

Its not like you can go get the exact players you need, you can only get what is available...so the coach has to be flexible. Q obviously was not, and that is why he is gone. - ToewsdNKanefusd
Stan has more than his share of mistakes and bad judgement issues. Holding onto and signing aging players to long term high end no movement clauses contracts while peddling a notion to the fans that he is really trying yo improve this team. Example when you sign a veteran who is over the age of 30 years old to a 8 year no movement clauses and trade to almost 7 million a year or a bottom 6 guy who never scored 20 goals a season but has 1 lucky playoff year to a 4 year 4million dollar deal knowing this team has issues with the cap ceiling and has to pay out bonuses with winning he makes those deals and due to his incompetence in order to fix his problem he has to trade a 21 year old future super star ?
Bowman and his father have out stayed their welcome and should both be shown the door and mc D as well.
This teams talent level is awful and their is nobody in Rockford you could swap out with who will give you a better result.
It's time to put everyone on the trade block gainmpicks , prospects and cap relief and build around Johki and Debrincant.

I'd like to take a moment to celebrate Ulf and Dineen being fired. I'll miss Q, but this likely was the right move. Most coaches don't make it to three years, let alone ten. No coach can come close to providing what Q did, maybe a change can help right the ship a bit. |

That's (frank)ing crazy. Scotty Bowman is 85 years old chilling on the beach in Tampa Bay. I don't doubt that you are right on this, but it's completely foolish IMO. |

I didn't think Jeremy Colliton was ready just yet, but knew the #blackhawks liked him a lot.
I just hope they are not Trent Yawney-ing him. - Justin Lowe
I wanted to see him get one more full year in Rockford too. But, I always thought they really didn’t hire him to coach in Rockford. They looked at him as potentially being the guy to replace Q.
I think the timetable got moved up, I don’t think the original plan was to move him up this soon. But, things don’t always go as planned.
Now for a little bit of conspiratorial thought FWIW. After watching that last game I had this nagging feeling Q wanted to be fired. I thought about that five minute major and Q not putting anyone in the penalty box. Really strange “mistake” for a coach like Q to make and Dineen/Samuelsson don’t notice it either, right. |

McD has demonstrated he is a Bowman guy and Scotty is an icon in this organization despite his age and distance from chicago...honestly he may be in florida but he still has McD's ear

If it were only that easy. Hockey teams take years to build. EDM, BUF, CLG and many more have spent years with high draft picks and nothing to show for it. The idea that you can just dump solid NHL players and replace them with prospects is just foolish. The picks from the last draft and the next few are not going to be NHL players for a few more years. Start dumping everyone and you are 5 years or more down the road to being a playoff team, let alone a Stanley cup contender.

The microscope now shifts to StanBow? .......... The Boqvuists/Beaudins/Wise/Gilberts/Mitchells (Hawks rebuild pieces) will have new and fresh eyes and a modern approache (Colliton is 33 yrs old!) orchestrating the new way/style. - Mr Ricochet

As usual you got me to thinking, Chunk. What would success look like for Colliton THIS yr? This has got to be a multifaceted answer.
Improved special teams? Young players improving and getting NHL ice time? A defensive system that hides weaknesses and enhances strengths of the personnel? New roles defined, coached up, bought into and executed? Linear organIzation thought from owner thru management to coaches? Wins losses?
What does Colliton success at years end look like to you? - Mr Ricochet
