After letting Tavares walk my guess is zero chance Lee becomes a UFA. They have plenty of cap space and no reason to let him get to UFA status. - hereismike1

Firing Q is not the answer but firing the gm is. Q didn't put this roster together or hand out bad contracts or draft undersized and unproductive player and i know the draft is a crap shoot plus who dent stay to long when it was apparent no prospects were being devlop correctly. Has bowman done good things yes but the bad had outweigh the good by a large margrin. And this last offseason was just complete failure and waste of money when it was clear a top 6 forward and top4 d man was much needed. Plus another center and couple of shaw type players i know its a lot but its what was needed and bowman failed big time along with scouting staff and other upper management. How do fix this mess build around joki Keith, unless hawks get a proposal they cannot pass on, dcat toews and kane everyone else trade. Thats all for now just venting and giving my honest opinion on things. - Scott1977
This Defence of Q based upon some argument that he hasn’t been provided with enough horses is off-base and I’m sorry just wrong. You can’t just give Q carte blanche because Bowman has also been a failure. Bowman has nothing to do with an awful PP, an awful PK, the worst “Defensive System”, terrible line combinations and terrible D-Man combinations. I also don’t think Bowman had anything to do with the Hawks killing a 7 minute penalty against Calgary. Remember that with the PP, Q has at his disposal Kane (All World), Toews, DeBrincat, Saad, Schmaltz, Yuki, Gus, Seabrook and Keith - and can’t score a goal. It was long ago time for Q to go.

Hey Z, didn't say I loved the move, thought it was ok, but I'm not sure he's a huge upgrade over Forsberg either.
I thought Forsberg's biggest issue was lack of a short memory after giving up a bad goal. - HawkintheD
Agree on Forsberg - he seemed to fight himself as much as the opposing team. I see your point on Ward too. Wish there had been a number of nice moves and the Ward move - however, just seems everything Bowman has done recently hasn’t been productive. Good “talking” with you.

Good points on Q still think bowman is more to blame than Q IMO. |

I strongly disagree with that statement. Hammer makes $4.1mil this year, signed a 2 year team friendly contract (with AZ!) for $5mil each year in 2019/20 + 20/21. For $1.19mil difference, I'd take Hammer over Murphy every day of the week. Is Hammer the same guy he was in 2015? No. But he's still a much more effective player than Murphy. - EnzoD
1. Hammy's play declined in 2016 and 2017 as fattybeef also noted. He was a warrior but the long seasons and playoff battles took their toll on him.
2. You can't declare he signed a "a team friendly" contract with AZ and then extrapolate back and say this would have happened if the hawks kept him. It doesn't work that way.
3. His deal expires after this season. Moving a 30 year dman with that contract and all that wear/tear was low hanging fruit for bowman. The hossa announcement had come out days before the trade. And the hawks had that contract uncertainty to deal with. Bowman wanted to get younger and have contract certainty for an additional 2 years. The trade made sense at the time.
4. You don't like the trade now...and you are of course entitled to your assessment. Murphy did not have good year but neither did hammy; he played in only 48 games with 9 pts (i know points are not the measure of dman like him); his blked shots per game were up; his hits (never been a big hitter) were about the same per game.

Did not mine the hammer or panarin trades its what came back that was disappointing. Those two trades could've change the hawks going foward but so far both are failures by bowman. |

I've missed most of the three Canada games, did we ever see the following?
Saad-Toews-Schmaltz
ADB-Anisimov-Kane
Johnson-Kampf-Fortin
Hayden-Kruger-Martinsen
Not necessarily all in the same game, but at any point. I'd just like to see at minimum the top two. - Chunk
You can shuffle it any way you want,it still = losses |

Bowman is a joke. If he is fired, he'll never get another job in an NHL front office unless it's filling up the Keurig machine. Scotty is out of the game, send MBA baby off to run a Kinkos or something. |

I’m a big Hjalmarsson fan but his last season in Chicago and his first in Arizona we’re not good.
There were lots on complaints about signing a 30+ year or d-man (Seabrook), was signing another one a good idea? Many here are calling for Stan to trade the aging core for youth and that’s exactly why he did with Hjalmarsson and Murphy.
You bring up the how poor the Hjalmarsson / Murphy deal is but at the time you really liked it. |

Q handling of Murphy has been terrible since he arrived . It a trend with Q to sabotage most of Stan moves . I believe the signings Of Manning Kuntiz Ward all have Q fingerprints all over them .. My biggest complaint of Stan is he and the front office have allowed this egomaniac to remain behind the bench . |

Team is at a crossroads - make deals to get competitive now while the core guys have something left, or blow it up and start over.
Have to think this team would immediately be a lot tougher to play against with Stone and Duchene and without Saad and Schmaltz. No idea how to make that happen but that would be my general direction if it was option one.
As for option two - see what TOR would offer for Keith or CC, for example. I have a hard time believing if the FO waives the white flag that many of the core guys would want to end their careers babysitting never gonna bes in last place. |

Stans responsible for the salaries , personnel correct? If every one is being brutally honest looking at the players and salaries the blame squarely rests at Stans feet, he gave out ridiculous contracts Bickell 4 million to a guy whom never scored 20 plus goals a season just because he had a great playoff run, then kept us in cap hell and traded teveo, Leddy traded, Shaw traded . The list of players we traded and assets returned speak volume.
Handzus was a nice rental but he was not a legitimate number 2 center and Stan living in a bubble of the past couldn't see reality.
Stan fired coach Q assistants and brought in this garbage Ulf, dinean whom run the pk and power play both are brutally horrible. He made the choice after getting smoke 4 and out then failing to make the playoffs to keep coach Q and his chance to really improve this team was the signings of Kunitz, ward, manning and Davidson? Anisomov let's be honest he isn't a top 6 guy. Seabrook at his age in his career should have never been given that contract knowing he wouldn't be even half effective to earn that contract and term.
Trading panarin for saad was dumb and even more super star players like that are a diamond in a ruff whom you find a way to keep and pay.
I could go on but Stan should be the first to go then at the end of the season you make a coaching change . - Taylorst1

First that was a Duchebag move to upload that video by the cabbie, or whoever is responsible for the video being leaked.
Secondly that dressing room is going to be so awkward it just shows the tire fire that are the Sens. |

They should have asked the Uber driver to run them over once they got out.
I think his driver rating went down a few stars. Or maybe that's why he did it. |

Speaking of trees, we need a couple of them planted in front of a goalie while on the PP. Instead what we have is a couple of daffodils planted way far away from the danger zone. Never going to score with that type of garden.
Im not a Q hater but Barry Trotz, Travis Green and Claude Julien are looking pretty smart right now coaching rosters not significantly better than what the Hawks have. - RickJ
This post is significant. For those who haven't been here long enough, Rick is on record here as NOT being a Trotz guy. |

I know this has been beaten to death, but I have 2 words for you (and everyone who says it's the GM and not the coach), Las Vegas. Here were players that were deemed not good enough for their current teams, and were "given" to Vegas. So it was a team of "bad" players. The majority of people say that the coach was the reason that The Golden Nights went all the way to the SC final. So, what is it? Can a coach get results with bad players? The league has had 10 years to learn Q's system, and they have. Q has had 10 years to design a new system, and he hasn't. Enough said! ByeBye Q (and coaching staff). Time for new blood.
And if Q gets hired by a new team and wins the cup with that team, then he belongs in the HOF. Good for him. |

I think - when considering the Vegas example - that we have to look at the draft rules.
Teams were allowed to protect either (a) 7 forwards, 3 defensemen, and 1 goalie or (b) 8 skaters and one goalie. Players with NMC or NTC must be included on the protected list. First and second year players were not subject to the draft.
I don’t know which teams chose which protection method, but the draft meant that Vegas could choose from at worst a middle-6 or top-4 defenseman from each team - plus MAF from Pittsburgh - giving them a nice collection of at least 3rd line / 2nd pairing skaters.
Add to that the fact that they had no “legacy” players mucking up their rosters (and, thus, no cap issues) they started out with at least a playoff contending team.
This isn’t meant to deny the coaching job of Gallant and others, or the “chip on shoulder” attitude of the “rejected players” - but I think to say that it was a team of “bad players” is not tenable.
Seattle, I would guess, will have similar draft rules - for $650MM, I would demand no less. |

The downside the success of the Hawks success is the fact the core have grown old together. Unless Bowman had the guts to start moving core players for prospects and draft picks two or three years ago I really see no other way this slide wasn't going to happen. It'll be interesting to see how other teams, Toronto for example, handle their star players once they reach their late 20s. Do they start moving them to try to retool quickly or do they run with them until their trade value is negligible? |
