Who are the bench assistants - Granato and Smith? - StLBravesFan
Yep.
Colliton says that they are all working together on everything (ie. PK, PP, etc.)

That's an interesting thought...Seattle could have Q as coach and Yzerman as GM. Pretty good start for an organization that doesn't even exist yet. |

i had to read this 3 times and still dont believe it. McD: No we didnt consider firing Q last year....Rocky: We considered firing Q last year. - glennjpawlak22
McDonut later said that because of Crawford injury and some other things it was not fair to fire Q at that time. McDonut is a sack of rotting onions. |

how in the Hell Stan still has a job is beyond comprehension. - glennjpawlak22
Because Q was not his coaching hire. All GM’s are given at least one coaching hire. Now that he has, he is now on the clock. |

Hrmmm well Q's hiring was on Bowman (Scotty) - so I guess now so is his replacement and its process.
I wonder if Scotty can sack his son? I doubt he could, and that is the problem to a degree, since I see that his signings haven't really been all that solid for years. Brunette, and others, anyone?

McD is such a spin master... He should have been a politician. Coach "Q" I want to thank you for those wonderful year of helping the Hawk become one of the best franchise in NHL. Take some time off and regenerate your batteries and than come out kicking with a team that's got the horses and a GM that knows about hockey( not like Stan). |

The Hawks would not have won any Cups let alone three with Savard as coach - nothing against Savvy, but he was put in a position to fail. So Q was a great hire and instrumental in bringing banners to the United Center - no question.
But for this team to continue to have a "goat festival" power play with some of the talent on the roster is reason enough to say a change was needed. to have this squad languishing at 27th or worse on the PP with Kane on the roster year after year is inexcusable.
I'm not defending Stanbo - he is big time culpable in the demise as well. Redemption will be a substantial change with the same players. Don't hold your breath. They're in second to last and the Blues are the trailing team - how long will that continue given the relative rosters? |

From the last blog
Thanks Z, sorry to hear about your dog. Losing Man’s best friend is like losing a family member.
IMO, keeping StanBo only prolongs the suffering and lack of Direction. If they are a rebuilding team, why is Kunitz playing over Kampf or Highmore? Why bring in Manning when you have Dahlstrom who is better and has more upside? Even Hillman looked better in his games last year. Same can be said with goalies in Forsberg and Delia who are no worse than Ward but need game action.
Either blow it up and go young or add pieces that will actually help you win. Seems they are doing neither...stuck in limbo and wasting Kane’s elite play.

Enzo I agree with you regarding StanBo. I don’t even believe he should have ever been the GM - clear case of nepotism in his hiring. I have no doubt that the Hawks would have a better talent pool if he hadn’t made a series of awful trades and awful signings.
However, I just knew the Hawks wouldn’t fire both. Scotty still has sway. Also raised at the Press Conference was the fact that each GM should get to hire a least one coach. I think this rule should depend on the circumstances. No matter how you cut it though StanBo wasn’t going anywhere...yet.
Gotta separate Q and StanBo. Q was not delivering as a Coach. This doesn’t change because StanBo has a history of misfires too. Let’s see what the rest of the season holds. Then maybe we blow this MoFo up! |

Agreed - Q is going to go to a veteran-laced contender in need of a transfusion. The Blues are a pretty perfect fit, if they'll take him back. Though they do have a mess in goal.

Look I’m not a huge fan of McD but i don’t think he was purposefully being misleading. Last year when Q was discussed at all, it was determined that it was unfair to discuss firing him because of Crawford and the team’s circunstances. |

Q will win a Cup elsewhere long before Hawks sniff another one.
While I'm sure he's disappointed from a competitive nature of getting let go, he's probably way better off in the long run, especially after hearing that press conference and McD/Stan talk.
Q did his job. Delivered 3 Cups and got the most out of that core he was given.

The best five guys on the team are still 2, 7, 19, 50, and 88 - with 28 rising fast & 12 pretty good but those five guys are the best and the leaders. What happens to them? Are they on board for a rebuild? How long will it take Colliton to learn how to coach in the NHL, especially in the playoffs? How long until the Blackhawks roster has enough talent to get into the playoffs let alone a Cup run? If one of them goes, what will that have on the others? Will any of them still be with the team a year from now? If not, what's the point? How low will they go?
This firing seems impulsive and not well thought out. |
