We got to give Colliton at least five games to figure out who needs to go back to Rockford and also release a couple of veterans. The Hawks have a multitude of shortcomings which our new coach will need to address ( Good Luck Coach) . The Hawks have only a couple of players willing to screen and park their body in front of the goal. Out of our core of wingers and defensmen, only Kane can bring the puck cleanily into the opponents zone( that is bad news). The Hawks are loosing the battle of the boards consistently ( can't win games with that stat). Stan's "magnificent 7 "on defense are a disaster. Four of D core are at best IceHog quality(thanks Stan). The power play and penalty kill is so bad...it is just plain atrocious. I think our new coach after a couple of weeks will make the powe play better because he is more creative than Coach Q . The penalty kill unit will not get better until Stan provides our coach with at least 2 New quality D men... I am probably dreaming for that to happen! - spanky
I hadn't really thought that through yet but you're right that he knows what is in Rockford and he's learning what is in Chicago. He should be able to make pitches to bring up some Icehogs that can help the Blackhawks. |

Lot working against the HAWKS tonight ,new coach lot of nerves on everyone . Dreaded 1st game after a road trip . And Darling having a good game for a change .
But made a game out of it . Will be a bit before they get all the Q out of the system - oldduffman
I think Darling had a good first period. Kane's goal, he lost his net and was slow to return because he was over-defending. Saad/Kampf goal, everyone was in front of him, couldn't see. Schmaltz took a shot that hit him and went it. I think he was partially screened. It looked bad because his team in front of him collapsed. After that, pulling Crow, the Canes were much better defensively and stopped sitting back plus a lot of our shots were going high and wide. Darling on had 1 good period, there were goals because he was a victim of a poor team defending in front of him. Sounds a little familiar ... |

I watched the first and beginning of the 2 nd period and this team is awful. Their is no way to deny it. Stans pre game interview was laughable, I'm of the opinion that if their is any personnel moves to be made (trades, signings ) That should be given to a new GM and Stan should be shown the door.
This team has no sustainable offensive zone play with any threat, the defense is a joke, Keith , Seabrook Gustafson, rutta , manning , Davidson all need to go. The amount of money tied up in the defenseman is almost 20 million and Keith' and Seabrook are no longer top pairing Guys.
If they move those guys out that allows this team to improve the forwards. Time to blow it up..
Kane should not be playing those amount of minutes due to a lack of offensive forwards |

Darling may have had a good first period just as much as the Hawks didn't have a good one...defensively anyway.
Not a shocker as I think the team was still in shock. Q gone, new coach, etc.

Conversely, if they can also get rid of Toews, Saad, and the bottom 6 fwd group it would allow them to improve the defense...with the new GM of course. |

alternatively they could trade, waive, and send to rockford the entire team and be just as bad "with a new GM of course"

Yup anybody who watches the NHL knows how poor a team they really are - except the brass making the decisions.
Its between them and the Senators for worst overall. - RickJ
The coaching move is merely buying time for this ignorant and arrogant front office as the focus is now on the new coach, but not on the bottom feeding team the GM assembled. Bowman’s performance over the past several years has been horrific, caping it off with whatever the hell he did this off season. I’m sure Scott was in town to give his boy a “good reference”. This team is now a tinker toy set for well connected, marketing gurus and syncophants.
A move should have happened but it clearly should have been a new GM and then allow him to evaluate Q and then make a call.
Now we can’t get rid of bowman without risking getting rid of Jeremy because a new GM should be allowed to get his guy.
This team is falling harder that even I could have predicted. |

Served up too many pizzas last night. The issue isn't that they are turning the puck over, it's where they are turning the puck over.
They have 128 giveaways this season, which is good for 8th lowest in the NHL. But I'd gander a bet that 40% of those giveaways are served up in the slot for a high danger scoring chance.
That is a fixable issue. It's all about putting the puck in the right areas. Anyone can do that when they think things through. Hopefully it gets sorted out, because if the team can eliminate those mental gaffes, they win a lot more games. |

It was pretty obvious last year he can't play in this league but they re-signed him. Stan saw him as another David Rundblad rehab job - RickJ
convert to a forward and be done with it...those seem to be his instincts and his decision making and positioning as a Dman is just consistently bad...
very interesting to here eddie o calling gus out and even suggesting a benching...i don't recall he or foley calling out players like that...

This might just be me, but did anyone else notice that the guys during the intermission were not calling the team the "Hawks"? They were referring to them as "we" as if they were all a part of the team. It definitely seemed like something they were told to do. |

Edzo, might want to call for a benching of his broadcast partner too. At one point he called Scott Darling, "Crawford" after making a save. Pat might need to get his prescription checked on his glasses... |

Seabrook and Gustafsson were having quite a battle all game long on which one was going to suck the most. Both of them were terrible tonight. Gustafsson had the early lead in rank suckage but Seabrook came on late to make a contest out of it. I say we call it a tie and give them both the "You Suck" award for this game. - EbonyRaptor
After his awful 1st period, I counted 3 times in the last 40 minutes that Gus got caught up ice and left Seabs back to defend an odd man rush by himself.
Seabrook would look a hell of a lot bette4 with a competent partner.

Won't be long before he's pronouncing players names backwards minus the Harry Carey impersonation. |

Pat needs to start focusing on the game. Thought I heard him call Darling "Crawford" near the end of the game too. |

He does crap like that quite often. I'd like to see Edzo and Burr together. Foley also called Fortin, Kane. |

I would think they'd be calling up Forsling whenever his nether regions heal. |

When anybody moves up a level it takes time. A coach has to figure out what guys fit the style of play he wants to move forward with. And in this case he's going to have to adapt a bit because the depth is thin. And at the same time he has to figure out what he's up against and make more adjustments, which in a 31 team league might take 1/2 the season.
Depending on moves at the trade deadline, we might see as many wins in the last 25 games as the first 35. I would call that progress and credit the coach no matter how many wins that actually is. Then the GM has to do some magic poop before next season. About this time next year we should have a much better picture of who's getting the job done and who isn't. |
