Justin Lowe: Growing Pains
It wasn't the way he envisioned it, but Jeremy Colliton has his first NHL game under his belt regardless of the outcome.
As we all know, JC (Jeremy Colliton) is in a real tough spot. He's got management thinking (and I think they are serious), that the current Chicago Blackhawks team is postseason worthy.

Couple thoughts....
WOW is the Blackhawks D slow/sloppy. Is Jokiharju your best defenseman now? Because he sure seemed like it. Even Keith was much slower than he used to be.
If Kane wasn't on the ice, the Hawks weren't creating much of anything. Explains why he saw 27 minutes of ice time.
Good game for Scott Darling aside from that kinda soft one from Schmaltz. Could have been a much different game if he was a little off.

Time to sell and start a new this should be stripped down and reset .i don’t trust Bowman to do it bad signing and trades . |

I don't know if you have enough movable pieces right now with all the NTC's. |

"There is so much parody now, I think the Hawks need to worry about their own game, implementing as much as Colliton's messaging bit-by-bit and not worry about their opponents as much."
Parity, not parody! Given the state of the organ-I-zation, clearly a Freudian slip! |

Justin, Enjoy vacation, I promise you we will overreact to every situation, call for eveyone's head, and provide 8.0M line combinations while your sipping a tasty beverage poolside! I bet even Toews 2.0 will be back on our chopping block. |

I agree, the first 2 lines had jump, more so than usual. Not sure if Kahun wanted to prove it to JC, or if its because he was on the third line last game. Maybe a little of both. We got depth scoring last night, always good. Glad there was fighting coming back. That's how this season started, come from behind victories. It wasn't a victory, but they fought back, and Crow making some timely saves I think was the catalyst.
The d has shown they can be good and bad, last night was a bad outing. It's mainly Gus with fancy plays that lead to turnovers in high danger areas. He's definitely dragging Seabs down. I disagtee, I liked Seabs game, there were bad plays late in the third, but he looked slow. Rutta was quiet, not always bad. Same with Davidson, I just didn't like him screening Crow.
Enjoy your vacation, JL. Great blog. |

After his awful 1st period, I counted 3 times in the last 40 minutes that Gus got caught up ice and left Seabs back to defend an odd man rush by himself.
Seabrook would look a hell of a lot bette4 with a competent partner.

EbonyRaptor is just wrong. Seabs’ play was just fine. It is a wonder that Seabs just doesn’t give up altogether, laying down on the ice and doing snow angels. Having a stationary traffic pilon as a partner would be better than Gus as you could at least place the pilon in the D-Zone. Gus is absolutely brutal.
Gus is brutal when he is in the D-Zone. However, he combines this with creating odd-man breaks, by getting caught up ice so often, that it seems by design. On one play later in the game there was Seabs all by himself, then you saw Anisimov later - then what seemed like 5 minutes later the Mighty Gus of Wind finally appeared. Sorry but if this is what Gus is going to bring to the table he simply can’t be dressed anymore. |

What is scary is that we looked bad against a bad team (5 losses in a row like us) and a bad goalie (first win of the season for Darling?).
Ouch!

I was following TT (the Finnish Patrick Kane) and TVR's games last nite too and neither stood out for me. I miss them a little less this morning. |

Quiet night for TT. He made a couple good defensive plays but overall was a non factor last night. He's in a bit of a slump right now. |

Gus is absolutely brutal. Rutta not far behind on the brutal scale. Davidson shows signs but terrible play chasing a player behind the net leaving the front of the net clear for what proved to be the GWG. He also does have a problem with screening - it is as if he is doing it for the other team. Seabs is simply being tortured being forced to play with Gus.

Ha! You beat me to it. But if you think about it "parody" actually works there too. But yes, pretty sure he meant "parity". |

Or at least play him in a limited 10-15 minute role. For some reason Gus is receiving top pairing minutes to reward his boneheaded turnovers. It would be nice to see him get held accountable, whether that be a benching or a demotion to the bottom pair. |

Aho is the guy for this club. 18 points in 16 games this year.
Worth noting that he's 21 and Svechnikov doesn't turn 19 until March, though. Svech is a big boy that's just starting to adapt to the NHL while playing on the 3rd line. |

Teuvo is more of a two way guy than Kane, and definitely doesn't have the same level of speed or drive. He's a good player, just not the guy that the Hawks tried to sell him as. |

What i saw in the goals against was CC left out to dry. No effort. That's ok. This year is a bust. The best draft positioning is the priority. |

Agreed. He's a very good two-way guy that can produce at a top 6 level, but the franchise in Chicago tried to sell him as the next big superstar and the media and fans built up massive expectations for the kid. |

It was only the third game Darling has started. Canes had scored a grand total of 2 goals this year in front of Darling before this game. |

I'd have to think whenever the other Gus is healthy, he comes up and takes some of those mins and is paired with either Seabs or Murphy (whenever he's healthy).
Forsling looked pretty good for about 20 games last year, til he didn't. |
