I never hated him, still don’t. I just really don’t see him as an impact player and I don’t think he will be here long term. Him not getting more term with his current contract is pretty telling to me, I think he will be gone by the tdl next season (2020). Not that I agree or disagree with it. - TheHank
He's not what a #2 overall should be, I just like his passing ability and net front presence.
I would wager you're right. He's not Botts guy and he could, both, get a decent defender in return and be fairly replaceable. |

I’m over his draft position now.
Agree with everything else. |

I think the real problem is just skating ability. He doesn’t have a powerful stride nor is he sturdy on his feet. I just don’t see it. |

I think I held my breath the entire time he was covering Pettersson in OT. It's a gross mismatch with so much open ice. I'm not sure I'd even play Sam in OT. |

Nathan Beaulieu is becoming a pretty under rated role player for us this year - sbroads24
you could make a strong case he is our 3rd best d man when on the ice |

the number 2 pick in one draft is different then another
each draft is different
sometimes you get a malkin, pronger or an eichel
sometimes you get a ryan murray, david legwand or lehtonen
I mean chris gratton and cam barker were taken 3rd overall

It's asinine ... But to each their own. there are so many other player to worry about still on this team... Sam and Risto are FAR from the one's that we need to address now. |

Fine, go back to pounding Risto. He's only got 3 points in the last 2 games.

Solidifying a top 6 and top 4, short term and long term, is the most important thing. I think they are a big part of the conversation. |

Saying Sam looks bad in ot is an observation.
Saying otherwise is ridiculous. |

Risto is a fine second pair d man and was a plus 1 the last 2 games
He is just overused like dahlin is underused
The stinky whore was a plus 4 in the last 2 games

I almost wonder if there is a generation of young sports fan in Buffalo who has been watching bad Buffalo teams for so long that they believe the only way to follow the teams is to find reasons to criticize them, even when they’re doing pretty well.
There are a few posters on the board who NEVER compliment any players, and don’t talk about good wins, just theorize about individual shortcomings or areas where the roster needs improvement. |

I never mention his draft position. Old news to me.
How he fits on this team long term and if he's a core piece is always an interesting conversation to me....after good games and bad.

Nice come from behind victory today. A win is a win is a win. Skinner with the play of the game when he tripped up Peterssen in O/T and took the penalty. Guaranteed Peterssen scores on that one and the Sabres only get 1 point. |
