I almost wonder if there is a generation of young sports fan in Buffalo who has been watching bad Buffalo teams for so long that they believe the only way to follow the teams is to find reasons to criticize them, even when they’re doing pretty well.
There are a few posters on the board who NEVER compliment any players, and don’t talk about good wins, just theorize about individual shortcomings or areas where the roster needs improvement. - Der Kaiser
Probably so... |

You don't find it a little strange that when talking about Skinner's defense, the best plays are penalties? |

I must say, Skinner's defense and takeaways are much better than I thought. I knew he was a goal scorer and fast but his back-check and defense is outstanding.
Also, I wore #23 to the Sabres/Ottawa game last Saturday. Probably the only one at the game with that sweater. I have to support the BC boys on the Sabres. Except Josh Gorges. |

Risto is a fine second pair d man and was a plus 1 the last 2 games
He is just overused like dahlin is underused
The stinky whore was a plus 4 in the last 2 games - homiedclown
I don't think Dahlin is that underused based on ATOI. Maybe he could use another minute or so, but they want him in optimal situations. Risto could use 4 less minutes and still be at first pair minutes. If Risto only has to play 22 minutes this team is really good. |

Honestly, I think of Skinner as a major defensive liability. I love his chemistry with Jack and I want to resign him, but I just don't consider that a strong two way line right now. Most of the time I notice Skinner's speed on a back check, it's because he got beat. I know Pommer isn't a long term answer, but he shows that a solid two way player suits those two well.

Risto is over used, but there aren't many other options right now. Dahlin isn't being underused. He's 18 and 18 year old dmen rarely play in the NHL. He's being properly protected. His minutes will be upped "gently." Ehblad was overused and abused in year one, and although he looked good year one he regressed badly year 2. |

He's either leading the NHL in +/- or close to the top. So, defensive liability, no. I haven't seen a better sabre forchecker too in a long time, and I've been watching the sabres a long time |

Dahlin's minutes won't really go up until he kills penalties, get's top PP time, and/or gets key defensive minutes.
First 20 games, I have no issue with it. Kid's been great and handled everything well.

He has 75% ozone starts. They shelter him more than any other player on this team.
Girgs is their best forechecker in my book.

I’m going to throw a turd in the punch bowl. I’m very impressed by Dahlin, but he makes as many bungles and bad plays as Scandella every night.
As yet, they haven’t haunted the team. The mistakes are recovered or go without consequence. But they’re there. |

He does, but he's a rookie and he gets a pass. Scandella is a veteran and he's garbage. It takes him an entire year to wind up for a slap shot, too. |

The timing of mistakes can be mitigating, if you panic and fold under pressure and just snow angel to try and stop the play, like Scandella has done a few times yeah, that's awful. Dahlin's mistakes seem to mostly happen in other areas instead of right in front of the net, or an ill advised clear/pass up the middle. Not all, some have gone in, and he has gotten lucky with a save, defensive play or missed shot. He generally doesn't make the same mistake twice in the same situations. |

I think he's quietly played very well. Lot of unheralded defensive minutes.

Also, Dahlin number 1 overall and Scandella is a mid-low second rounder.
Your expectations should be reversed. |

Had to say it... LOL.
At least Tampa is up on Ottawa 4-2, but the Canadians and Vegas are tied at 3... |
