Feels like there might be something to the smoke that's been surrounding Carolina regarding Nylander. That's the team that was named first and still seems like a good fit. With a potentially meddlesome owner who might ok a deal that nets the Hurricanes a player like Nylander. A no doubt top six forward.

I still think Willy signs and stays. But it makes you wonder if Calgary ever offered Hamilton for Nylander.

- BetterCallSaul

It makes you wonder...they scouted the hell out of the Leafs the past while. Their AGM has been at every leaf game as well as other scouts.

If it’s a bigger deal...Hamilton could absolutely be apart of it.

I’ve been saying Hamilton would be the only D I’d want from the Canes. If not keep him....we’ll find out very soon.

Hamilton is good, underrated and has a nice contract.

If he would have agreed on contracts with all three player earlier, would have saved 2-4million on total cap hit for sure.

+ the fact that Leafs are missing Nylander for a Month now.

Unless Leafs in fact have planned all along to trade Nylander (due to his personality / not fitting well with rest of the team), it's bad player management on behalf of Dubas.

You are doing it again man.

You have zero clue what is going on...like the rest of us. For all we know Nylander could want to play in the KHL and is just holding out to see if he can cash in big. EXTREMELY unlikely...I’m just using it as an extreme example because we have no (frank)ing clue. So stop thinking you do.

And I wouldn’t add very much to the deal. No way we give up Nylander and Kap I hope.

I saw EK suggesting Hamilton for Willie yesterday - doesn't seem realistic even for a Leaf fan like me, can't see any way that Nylander's value has increased either to the Leafs or any other team with him sitting out. If he was really betting on himself, he would have said give me $5 million for one year and scored a sh!tload of points and won the bet.

Carolina has a poop load of cap space this season.

Any team that signs Nylander long term to 7 million has a cap hit of upwards of 9 million and a future cap hit of around 6.5.

Now some people think this is a huge advantage to the Leafs to sign him....it’s not. The leafs don’t want to be so close to the cap for the TDL.

There’s a line

You can’t call a gm stupid because he didn’t sign a player because you “know” that he would of sighed to a cheap deal.

They’re probably hoping to get Nylander plus for Hamilton...hence the reason they’re at all our games.

Dougie Hamilton would be a great scapegoat on the Leafs. Every time he makes a mistake and Nylander scores for Carolina we can poop kittens, it'll be so Leafy.

99% of the time I will back the player - your career is short, you are one hit away from retirement, etc. Get as much money as you can.

But there's simply no justification for this guy wanting $8 million. He's not a top 30 guy in the league - not even franking close.

You want to skip pre-season? No problem.

Mid-November? I really wonder if I still want the guy on the team.

Probably right.

Or you may wonder if Gardiner would be in a package and with Ferland coming back.

Gardiner>>>>Ferland and they are both UFAs.

I still think Gardiner May resign but if you net a Hamilton back...it may be worth it.

It would have been nice to sign Nylander long-term to a good deal - he's not nearly as good as Pastrnak and he should be paid less than him. $6 - $6.5 is what he should get from Leafs or a team that trades for him. He's not worth a dime more at this point.

If Kessel turnstiles Hamilton and scores, what the hell would we shout?

Damn, I really need to think about this.

Yep. I mean he will get his money...if he waits out long enough he will get traded to a team that will pay him.

May be all he cares about.

Agree 100% - history does too. Only Turris went longer - and he got jettisoned at first opportunity.

If Carolina moves a d-man or two - the candidates are more likely Faulk and Bean not Hamilton - for whom they gave up significant assets for.

Pesce is the most likely candidate and the rumors suggests it’s true.

Just if this deal is bigger than just a 1 for 1 it’s possibke Hamilton is included.

There is a difference between trying (Dubas style) and really trying (getting things done).

You can't say make that quote of 'We can and we will' unless you already have pre-agreements on contracts with all three players.
Just stupid.

- plantheparade

Wtf.

So becuase he said "can and will" they tried, but they didn't try (dubas style)

Wtf does this even mean.
