Cross crease tip in is a terrible back breaker?
- burn

Leafs played bad, took some bad penatlies, but they were beating the Bruins like a rented mule in the first. Hard ask for a backup goalie to make a great save - in that situation - but emotionally - when you are beating the snot out of an opponent and your goalie lets the first good opportunity in - its demoralizing to the team and the fans.

If he would have agreed on contracts with all three player earlier, would have saved 2-4million on total cap hit for sure.

+ the fact that Leafs are missing Nylander for a Month now.

Unless Leafs in fact have planned all along to trade Nylander (due to his personality / not fitting well with rest of the team), it's bad player management on behalf of Dubas.

- plantheparade

Dam why can't you be our gm, seems so easy to save 2-4mil. I wish our management knew what you knew. Sucks that the guy that litterally wrote the cba doesn't know how to work the cba but internet goof knows.

Wtf.

So becuase he said "can and will" they tried, but they didn't try (dubas style)

Wtf does this even mean.

Also Dubas style trying worked well with Tavares as I recall, wasn't that the biggest UFA signing in hockey in a generation?

No let’s already call the Nylander situation a failure even though there is no result yet.

That’s the Leafy thing to do.

They’re probably hoping to get Nylander plus for Hamilton...hence the reason they’re at all our games.
- Garnie

Add to nylander? Move on then.

The Tavares signing was a great move, in the end though, Willie's imminent departure has more to do with the Tavares signing than anything else. We know that Matthews ask will be high, but what will Marner's asking price be next summer if he scores 90-100 points?

Not a failure, just didn't go as planned for sure. Puts a wrench in things and could have impact on next summer's signings.

That trade is unlikely, but if those were the main pieces in a deal - do you think it would be one for one?

They controlled the play yes, but didn't have any significant scoring chances. Despite not scoring I still liked their play earlier on. I said part way through the period they're going to be in trouble.

Yeah I understand it being emotionally demoralizing to control the play and then have like the fourth shot go in on you, but they need to be stronger than that or else they are in more trouble than just last night. Look at the game and say to yourself we are controlling the game here lets just keep it up and get that one back. They came back for the 2nd and just got filled in. Pretty weak to fold like that because of a goal like that. It's not like it was a weak goal. It was a tough play.

Anyone surprised when kypreos said the leafs may have an offer of pastranak money on the table for nylander?
So they probably have been low balling him to this point. Near the end of the November they’ll sign him to around that cap hit and then his aav will be smaller for the next 7-8 years. It was all hoax to save a few hundred thousand on the cap for a few years.

Yep. I mean he will get his money...if he waits out long enough he will get traded to a team that will pay him.

May be all he cares about.

- Santo_44

I think that sentiment is becoming even more prevalent.

If the leaf trade nylander and have to add they're getting way more than that. Not many team have enough to give up for nylander+

I have little doubt he will be an elite winger for years to come.

70-80 point guy....but at the end of the day if there is a deal that brings a player that wants to be here? I’ll do it.

Yeah but having Nylander at a 9 mil cap hit for this season is not good for the leafs cap situation. They don’t want to pay bonus fees next season.

That’s the thing, but it’s taken till November 10th to hear if a number like that. They are definitely taking it slow....

Leafs offing low, but (frank) greedy nylander for not already signing.

I agree. Young team and does not do well against rough teams like the Bruins. Marner was getting filled in all night.

I thought it was Horton not on LTIR that affected the bonuses?

I’m starting to change my tune. I think he gets signed long term in the next 10-14 days at pastanak money. Something everyone thought was reasonable months ago.

I don't think they were physically dominated, outside of a couple chara body's lams that went unpenalized.

Marner is scheduled to hit bonuses as well as Matthews.

Adds another 5.5 million I think and it carries over to next season. I need to read up on it again but I know having Willie at 9 million will not help.

I think it’s over for him.

Putting Horton on ltir means leafs go over the cap and that moved bonuses to following year. That is why they aren't putting him on ltir this year so they can avoid bonus overages.

There are only three outcomes, there are no conclusions being implied, the likely outcome IMO is a trade at some point.
