Not sure how I feel this morning. Happy the Flyers won again, but I wake up to this...

There is/was nothing wrong with ties

I like the current format, too. If it was a choice between ties or a 3 pt win format, I would choose the ties.

I see nothing wrong with ties, but having some games worth 2 points and others worth 3 is ridiculous.

Overall, good effort. Still need to clean things up. Hawks are struggling and did not look close to old self. Elliott has looked sharp and, more importantly, keep us in game by bailing us out from our turnovers. A better team may have converted one of those early turnovers and we are down 0-1.

Chemistry is looking good. D pairings working well. Dale "don't boo me, I only play 8 minutes" Weise is finally looking like we had hoped.

It’s different. I’ve gotten used to it and think that it adds excitement. However, making a hockey win in regulation worth 3 points feels awfully wrong. Like someone singing your favorite song to a different melody.

As others have said previously, the current points system is a pathetic facade. Just a ruse by the league to make it look like there is parity.

It won’t change though, because money.

Two top teams in the metro have negative goal diffs. Bit of change from last year.

And I just can’t stand the black uni’s. Can’t even see the numbers

that just means they're out performing right now and will sink later

It is indeed a strange, new world.

Well, Uncle Gary wanted parity, he got parity. Personally, I kind of miss the days when there were 5 or 6 really good teams, 5 or 6 sh!t teams and the rest somewhere in the middle, but oh well.

- BiggE

the owners wanted parity.

Exactly, here is how it should work, IMO

Win in regulation you get 3 points, the loser gets nothing
Win in OT or a shootout you get 2 points, the loser gets 1

Why the NHL can't figure this out is beyond me.

Winner in regulation or OT gets 2 points
Winner in shootout gets 1 point
Loser in any scenario gets 0 points

That's just my idea. That or 2 points for an OT/Shootout win and half a point for the loser instead of a full point.

@KINGKENZO It is not ridiculous. People like you make a big fuss over something that has little impact on the standings at all

This is what the standings would like like without the extra point for an OTL or SHO loss. As you can see the standing are mostly the same. The only differences are PHI out, FLA in, COL out and STL in. LA ends up in 3rd, ANH in 1st WC. FLA takes WC spot and CBJ takes 3rd in Metro.

22 out of 31 teams remained in the exact same position as before.

You need to reevaluate. 4 teams effected whether in or out. Seedings changed. That's huge! Not to mention the appearance of teams being closer than they actually are, which helps fans remain interested.

Better teams made the playoffs. STL wouldnt have been in that position had they not traded Stastny. Florida Goal differential was +2 compared to PHI + 8. COL was +20 compared to STL +4

Win (Regulation) = 2 points
Fake Win (Regulation) = 1.5 points
Loss (Regulation) = 0 points

OT Win = 2 points
OT Loss = 0 points

SO Win = 2 points
SO Loss = 0 points

Why exactly should you get rewarded just for playing longer? You win or you lose. Stop giving out millennial trophies.

if you're going to give out half points then go all the way with it.

1.5 for a OT win

While were are at it, lets just take away all goals that are scored by luck. Why should you be rewarded because a bounce went your way? You should have to earn all your goals

Regulation win/OT win. 3 points.

Shootout win 2 points. 1 point to the loser.

Every game is worth 3 points.

But we need to factor in our yearly 10 game losing streak.

That said, this season is wonky so far for most teams. I can see the Flyers making it interesting this year, presuming they get some prolonged stability in net.
