The NHL implemented a system that always determines a winner for every game, why does a team need to get a point for losing?
Personally I want the shootout gone, find it one of the dumbest things in sports. Might as well have a dunk contest to determine basketball games. |

You could keep his same concept and do 2, 1 & 0 then and the loser wouldn't get any points.
Unfortunately with TV scheduling the shootout isn't going away any time soon. |

If you lose in a shootout, did you really lose the game?
I'm fine with the shootout gone but in terms of entertainment, it works. |

This would be my preference as well, but sadly it will never happen. If it were up to me I’d increase the OT period a bit to 6 minutes, and eliminate the shootout. It really is an asinine way to end a team game. The winner in reg or OT gets 2 points, the loser gets zilch. If it’s tied after OT, well then congrats on a well played game and both teams get a point. |

Short answer, nope.
Just trying to figure out what the difference between losing 4-3 in regulation to losing in a shootout is. |

Not much but my suggestion makes winning in regulation or OT more valuable points wise than just hanging on for the shootout.

Personally I would love for continuous OT until there is a winner, winner gets the points. It's a team sport and as soon as you take the team element from it then I consider it tarnished. Otherwise bring back ties.
The last game against San Jose, the Flyers lost in OT. I loved the Flyers got a point out of it, but in reality that is a fake point. |

It's a long season. Not really practical for continuous OT.

I would assume that if you do 3v3, most OT games would be over within 10 minutes. There's bound to be breakdowns, and due to the shortened bench, fatigue will set in quick. |

Don't underestimate the coaches. If there is a point to be lost, they will suck all offense out of the OT. |

I think the 3 on 3 really reduces the need for a shoot out. Maybe they could do 2 separate 5 minute 3 on 3 OTs, with just a bench switch, to further reduce the shoot outs. Drop the extra point. 2 points if you win, 0 if you lose.
Edit- Or shootouts could still happen (ending for fun), but not be scored. Like a tie, 1 point each.
Stats...isn’t there less shoot outs with just 3 on 3? |

Yeah, but its not quite as physical is it? Baseball is so physical you can play a game 8 or 9 days in a row.
Continuous overtime would be a terrible idea for the regular season.

Didn't they end an ASG in a tie after 10 due to pitcher fatigue? |

It would be brutal. Imagine playing a double OT on Saturday night, then having to travel and play on Sunday. |

Baseball, where you spend the overwhelming majority of the game standing around or sitting on the bench. Where you play 5-6 games a week? That baseball?
