If Scotty is an adult/businessman, I don't think that matters, you know? But maybe it does. I'm not sure.
I look at it like this: if my dad was very successful at his job and I started working at the company he works at and I ended up botching some stuff and the big wigs decided it was time for me to go, then that's it. I'm out. My dad stays. I would hope that's how things work and not some goofy allegiance, "I stay and work with my son or I'm gone, too" stuff. Haha. - Hank3Henshaw
I agree with what you're saying but to some people family means more to them than anything. Stan gets fired Scotty could get some hard feelings from it and not wanna stay on as a consultant with the team. At this point ya gotta wonder how much it really matters to the team anyways having him "apart" of things.
Only reason I really doubt we see Stevie Y get brought in is because I doubt he wants to be just the GM of the team he likely wants a bigger role like President of the team. Unless McD is gonna assume another role or get let go (doubt it for the PR stuff he does that I'm sure Rocky values after all the harm his dad did with the fanbase) I don't see him taking that position on the team or a lesser role where he has to answer to someone. We need a smart mind like that who is capable of identifying talent and finding pieces that fit your system that you can draft, sign, or trade for to build your team up. Steve did a great job of that in Tampa (and resigning guys to VERY team friendly deals) to build a deep team that is a Playoff contender each year.

Chelly would be cool.
Would also like JR - would be a total maverick. Why not? - Hank3Henshaw
To see JR go from a rookie to GM of the Hawks would be amazing. He'd definitely be on the media non-stop. I'd be interested. |

No Joki? I think he's the only current Dman I keep.
Keith would bring back several decent picks/prospects due to his cap hit and skill.
Seabs...see if someone would give you a 7th round pick, but even then we'd probably have to retain salary.
Manning and Rutta...get whatever you can get, or waive them.
I'm on the fence about Gus. I thought he looked better defensively this game. If he keeps that up, I'd wouldn't mind him splitting 6/7 with Davidson.
Next year D-corp:
Beaudin/ Joki
Forsling/ Murphy
Gus/Mitchell
Seabs (because no one's taking that contract + leadership for the young Dmen)
This would give Boqvist one more year to mature in London. - tvetter
I forgot to add Joki!
I like Davidson/Manning because they'd be cheap and serviceable as lower pairings. Just have them focus on clearing the zone and playing defense - not trying to rush the puck. |

He'd be a super funny GM. Feel like he'd be a total Al Davis. |

yes foley and edzo have been noting the poor plays and decisions of individual players since Q was torpedoed. Watch out instead of #8 or others getting a lecture or sitting those two might be getting a call from McD and Co to cool it. - bogiedoc[/quote]
I don't know.....Eddie-O seems pretty pi$$ed right now. If it comes down to it, I hope he tells McEgo to stuff it. And then goes public about all the BS. i'd bet he wouldn't be unemployed for long. |

Hard pass on both - this organization needs someone who has proven experience at optimally the NHL level - or at least the AHL. I’m afraid that popular, first-time candidates would result in failure. |

I want proven experience, too.
We were just having some fun thinking about Chelly or JR. |

Yeah, Jokiharju is your best defenseman right now.
I know they were trying to get rid of Hossa's contract (for some reason) but what exactly was the point of trading away Hinostroza and Oesterle for that package?
Surely to god you could find a cheaper 4th line C than Kruger? |

I concur with the Stevie Y support - but all indications are that he will be assuming a leadership role with Detroit in the near future. Critics of his push back that TB hasn’t won a Cup - so he hasn’t been successful. But as you note, his moves have been very effective. Particularly how he handled the Stamkos extension and also sticking to his guns with Drouin’s pouting - turned that into a win for TB (which isn’t hard to do when dealing with Bergevin - but that’s not the point).

NMC give the player tons of power.
They can steer who they're traded to, or provide a list of teams that they can't be traded to, or don't need their services, etc., just to make the whole process difficult and keep them on the current team. - Hank3Henshaw
I agree with that. I think if your going to live in a limited rising cap era with rising salaries , the ntc/NMC need to be eliminated including the cap recapture penalty . That is clearly a albatross that is stifling the league as a whole. Maybe set some salary parameters based on age and or skill / accomplishments or not include bonuses into the cap that seems hurt teams who are trying to put the best possible players on the ice and then penalizing a team because said player or players achieved their bonus metric. |

Yep, I think for Kunitz it was probably a combination of not wanting to be waived and sent to Rockford if he played like crap. If he played well he wanted to be sure he could go to a true contender at the trade deadline.
For Ward I think it was the latter.
Now why Stan agreed to this, it’s probably something as simple as they refused to sign without it. |

The NMC/NTC issue has two sides to it.
Yes, you want to lock up franchise players. I get that part, dollars aside, they make selective sense if used wisely.
However, when one looks at these being given to lower level players like Kunitz or Ward, I think it speaks to my gut feeling that the luster is off of the Hawks reputation of being a "destination" team, and overpays with security are a requirement to attract players.
Perhaps the opposite perception may be in play now given the slow but sure leak of comments from disgruntled players coming out, and the where there is smoke there is fire theory, which may explain why a 33 year old AHL coach just beginning, quite frankly, his professional coaching career is behind the bench being "mentored" (babysat/surveilled more likely) instead of a tried and true NHL coach.
The persistent rumors of the complexity/difficulty operating in the Hawk management matrix may very well be scaring off potential talents on and off the ice. This only seems to be something that will get worse as former members of the organization are freer to speak being away. Warm and fuzzy stories of helping players with addictions, community efforts, parent trips, etc are in fact nice touches, and speak to the positive emotional side of the organization, but I do think they are in Sisyphus territory now. |

So what difference does it make if McD says Scotty only plays a "microfractional role" ? Launch Stan, retire McD and get a GM who's willing to improve this team and not tinker along the edges.

If they're eventually going to blow it up...
Guys I'd like to see stay:
- Kane
- Toews or AA
- Hayden
- Kahun
- Fortin
- Johnson
- Martinsen
- Frolsling
- Murphy
- Gust (just for offensive upside from backend)
- Davidson/Manning
Move whoever else you can to free up space and potentially bring some guys in via trade. - Hank3Henshaw

As for forwards:
Toews, Kane, ADB, Saad stay.
Before the season I said try to sign Schmaltz for $5x5; however, now I say 2x2 bridge. Also, make him work out with ADB in the off season.
I think everyone else is expendable.
I'd be ok with Kampf, Kahun, Fortin, Johnson, Hayden and Martinsen, but not all of them, maybe 3 or 4. The problem is that there's no real help in Rockford. Maybe Highmore or Ejdsell could help a little.
We still need to find a true 2C. AA is not it, and Wise is probably 2 or 3 years away.
Schmaltz-Toews-Saad
ADB-2C-Kane
Fortin-Johnson-Kahun
Martinsen-Kampf-Hayden
Highmore
Ejdsell.
I would like some new blood for the 3rd and 4th lines, but don't know who Stan or the next GM would be able to sign/trade for. |

Excited to the Forsling back in the fold. Hopefully he can play as well as he did at the beginning of last year if not with more confidence since he does feel he has to keep looking over his shoulder for Q to bench him.
Wonder when Kruger is ready who is gonna be the one to go out of Davidson, Rutta, or Manning or maybe even Gus. Gotta think that Davidson is the most likely to go due to his contract, but ya gotta think Stan is making calls to try and dump one of them on someone else

Eight defensemen on the roster for the time being. They didn't bring Forsling up to sit in the press box. Looks like 2 of 3 of Manning, Davidson, Rutta sit. Someone to be sent down, released or traded soon? |

NY Times article: In NHL Concussion Settlement, Owners Win the Fight
https://www.nytimes.com/2...le=Latest&pgtype=Homepage - StLBravesFan
with the BS discipline calls from player safety (although they got the wilson susp right), brutal missed calls on the ice, and now this...
the Mora playoff?? gif should be player safety?? Player safety?? the nhl thoroughly uncommitted to cleaning its act up in this area. Its unfortunate the players settled for this bag of peanuts but they are dealing with HoF bettman's brass knuckle politics on this issue...but in some sense they are complicit in their own lack of safety and physical health
“The N.H.L.’s philosophy was scorched earth and deny every issue,” said Charles Zimmerman, the lead lawyer for the retired hockey players. “They denied the link between neurocognitive problems and the game of hockey, and felt that the players were not injured and wouldn’t participate in large numbers. They were right on that.”
