That may or may not be the case. However if your trying to recruit talent and having a hard time #1 maybe the organization needs to asses itself and correct those issues #2 when your 3 years removed from winning the cup and just missed the playoffs by a mile for a lack of skill, depth, defense, scoring signing a 39 year old a at best number 7 defensemen doesn't check any of the immediate needs nor correct anyone of those skilled positions needed. Wasting money as well as hog tying this team further. - Taylorst1
Meh, I don’t have too much heartburn over the NMCs with Ward and Kunitz - they’re both one-year deals - not really a strategic hurdle for the organization to get over. Also, both guys are long-term vets who probably didn’t want to be bounced around at the TDL like some rookie without some say in the matter.
I have no idea how the free agent market views the Hawks as a destination - but I imagine that the recent firing of a respected future HoF coach and a prolonged losing streak can’t help the team’s image. |

I think it speaks to the latter of your comment ( Image ) and it sends a negative connotation throughout the dressing room and the league that this team isn't committed to winning. We all have a Christmas list of players we feel can help this team and reality is we can't get everything however we can get certain pieces that do immediately help this team and show a positive commitment to wanting to win. Rutta , manning , Davidson eat up 5mill add Kunitz, Kruger that's 8 million move out anisomov who is just a complete joke he had 1 positive season with this team riding the coattails of Kane and PANARIN. Skinner was being shopped he has a cap hit under 6 million and tearing it up in buffalo he would be more productive and he is young , then you bring up Hillman and maybe 1 other young cap friendly defenseman who probably would be more reliable then these rejects.
I would have moved schmaltz for Skinner, Skinner is proven , schmaltz has more question then answers. |

I would hate to see Colorado get the 1st pick...... - powerenforcer
Or even a Top 3 pick. I feel bad for Ottawa. They should have given up their pick this past year instead of waiting til next years draft |

That was a terrible trade for Ottawa.....sorry but Duchene is not a Top 5 pick better than Turris... Especially considering Duchene is almost guaranteed to walk next summer via Free Agency..... |

Why would any team want them? Every NHL team has better, younger, or cheaper alternatives to Kruger, Rutta, Manning, Kunitz, Ward, Davidson, Gustafson, ect...
I think Anisimov should/could be traded and slot as a 3C on a Playoff Contender. Nobody wants Seabrook without getting Boquist or Debrincat too. Keith is tradeable. - EnzoD
AA is the best bet to be traded, because like you said all Playoff teams are looking to get better down the middle and we would be perfect 3C on a Playoff team. I could see Kunitz getting some play because of his experience and GMs are big on that come Playoff time. Same with Cam Ward TBH, I think a lot of teams would rather have an experienced goalie backing up their starting goalie for the Playoffs than someone unproven. Especially if we're willing to eat the majority of contract to get a better return. Kruger could possibly go as a 4C who can kill penalties. Never know with any of the Defensemen. One GMs trash is another treasure. Especially if injuries hit.
As far as Seabrook goes, I think it's pretty obvious that is gonna end up going one of two ways. Either he retires in the next few years as Hawk or once the new CBA is negotiated a buyout will be done (IF it doesn't kill the Hawks cap going forward). Like you said, I'd be shocked if any team was willing to eat that contract without taking a young stud player back in return. |

he's about the same size as Kane when he was drafted #1 overall...5'10' 160ish pounds and out of this world offensive skill

I know it was just a horrible move all around that just didn't make much sense for them. If their GM had any sense he would have started the season with him locked up long term or traded him for as much as he could get to try and help rebuild that team in like 5 years or so of playing horrible

Any responsible GM insists on lottery-pick protection as a part of that deal - if you have to add an additional later-round pick or future-year pick, so be it - put you absolutely must protect that 1st rounder from lottery-pick status.
That trade was amateurish. |

As much as we need some defense help, idk if we're gonna sign any impact guys in FA. With Boqvist, Mitchell, and Beaudin coming up in the next year or two I think their banking on those three and Joki being the next waive of defensemen on this team and ride out Keith and Seabrook til they retire or whatever. My guess is that they go young...
Keith-Joki
Forsling-Boqvist
Beaudin-Seabrook
Then spend money on a FA scorer like Lee or Panarin. Maybe add a young guy or two that fits our system and can play in the bottom six.

I doubt Seabrook would voluntarily retire and leave all those years/dollars on the table. Unless he can't play for medical reasons, he's gonna wanna get paid.

A rebuild will take time but getting Hughes and another high pick with Kane, Toews and DKat as a compliment could speed up the process.
Looking at our higher picks, we drafted Babchuck, Barker in Skille amongst the Golden Era drafting starting with Keith in 2002. It didn't all come together until 2008 or so. |

Agree but looking at the context though, Sens made the trade the season after coming one period short of making the Final I believe. Duchene seemed to be the missing piece. Everything fell apart in an amazingly short amount of time- but like you alluded by a terribly managed team. |

Ottawa messed up initially in having interest in Duchene period. He is an arrogant tool. Thinks he is better than he is. Seemed to have a very nice situation in Colorado and poisoned it. Went to Ottawa - poisoned that. Ottawa dumb in giving up even a chance for a First Overall Pick. Also if Ottawa wanted Duchene so bad should have confirmed his contact status and that he’d be a Senator a long time. Doesn’t seem there is even the slightest chance that he is re-signing. So he is going to have to be traded again - may not sign with team traded to. That could be 4 teams for him in an incredibly short time. What a winner. Duchene go catch a cab.

Wouldn't you love to be in Toews/Kane/Keith/Seabrook/Crawford's ear right now?? What does Kane think as he watches Seabrook struggle to keep up most nights? Are they filled with regret over maxing out the cap and making this team unable to compete? Are they mentally checked out and sick of hockey..just showing up to collect a paycheck? Do they have a good attitude and the competetive desire to be great..but just lack the physical ability they had in their prime? There is just a toxic mix of over-the-hill and overpaid Vets and non-NHL caliber players....it's ugly. |

Carolina is a very beatable team....Hawks up 2-0 in the 3rd and lose. The irony of it being Teravainen who started the rally should not be lost on anyone here..especially Stan Bowman - EnzoD
Based on this logic, how would you or anyone consider trading Nick Schmaltz then? Giving up Teravainen in the Bickell deal sucked, but if he was playing every game in a Hawk uniform the way he was last night, he likely wouldn't have been included in that deal. |

I heard the same rumor as well. Never really know with how reports get thrown out there left n right but I think any time you hear something that actually makes sense based on where the team is at, there's got to be some sort of truth to it. - Savetheembers33
I heard the same. You and Rota provided more detail, though. I believe there to be a kernel of truth to it. |

I agree. Schmaltz should get a $3mil AAV 2 year Bridge deal based on his play thus far. Great potential, but all it is thus far is potential in a incomplete package. Knowing McStanBo....I'm very worried he will be yet another overpay. |

If Barry Smith can solve the PP issues like Scotty wanted him to try to do some years ago then he's ok in my book. A friend who remembers him from being in Arizona with the Yotes says he sucks. But the Yotes sucked too. So who knows.
I wish Colliton a lot of luck. He's going to need it.
As far as last night, I told my wife with 2 minutes left in regulation that the hawks better score soon. 3 on 3 there's no way they can cover the Canes, especially Aho. That kid is the real deal, great powerskater with the rest of the tool bag. Seabrook just laying there was (frank)ing sad. Maybe Seabrook at some point soon will take his money working as an assistant or behind the scenes. - 6628
I don't think Sean's volunteered to be out there to be out there. Coaching decision from Mars. |
