Agreed
Now... WHO is the “dead money” we need to get rid of?
I wanna see us get faster
So Okposo, Berglund & Sobatka are all guys I’m pretty much done with - jdfitz77
you could make the argument that if you replaced Ristolainen, Okposo, Scandella, Berglund, Bogosian and i guess sobotka too (although hes got one more year at 3.5, not the worst) with 1-2 million dollar replacement level guys, we'd probably have the same results/record as we do now, just with roughly 14.5-22 million dollars more in cap space.
Edit: brain fart on the math |

McDermott is going to make a hell of a defensive coordinator some day. He's just not a head coach. I see Wade Phillips 2.0, not quite as good as the OG, but quite good nonetheless. - Wetbandit1
I think the way of the world in the NFL is to have an offensive minded HC.
McDermott is not that.
So if Daboll isn't that guy who can develop a young QB that will cost McDermott his job in the long run |

These two are most likely cycled in and out of the lineup
Skinner-Eichel-FA/trade
Nylander-Mitts-Reinhart
Olofsson-FA/trade-Okposo
Sheary-Malone-Berglund
O'Regan/Erod
Sobotka - jcragcrumple
Sheary on line4 would mean we are pretty deep
I don’t see him in a defensive role though
That’s far from his strong suit
And you’re asking a lot of Malone to handle those duties as a rookie
None of those top3 lines look like they should be used a lot defensively either

Yes, that’s what I’m saying
Sbroads just takes it as i think
Asplund > Berglund though

Reasonable
Idk what coach would’ve been able to make much of our offense this year though |

I don't think we look at a 4th line the same way. To me, the 4th line is an energy/two-way line, not a defensive line where you basically concede, and say "I'm not going to score, but hopefully they don't either." Eventually our goal should be to have a potent top line that we throw out against anyone else's top line and say "come and get it."
Let our 4th play against their 4th if we actually have a somewhat skilled 4th line that can occasionally score |

I don't know how much of this you can move over the next 12-18 months, but they'd be my targets (varying in urgency) to move on from just cause they give you the biggest gap between cap spent/value received.
It's why I wouldn't mind them being sellers this year even in the midst of a playoff race. Sell the right guys and you probably get better anyways. |

Speaking Monday, Bills coach Sean McDermott said he is "still confident" in Nathan Peterman.
We are not. It will be a dark day for the Bills franchise if Peterman is forced into another start this season.

100% agree also why UB turned it around that was the big thing Lance did when he came... Took a bit but look at them now.
All over the league you can see players drop in production do to the OL
Look at Zeke in Dallas that line was great 2 years ago
COnnor in Pittsburgh ... was bell that good or just a great ol? - hubie
The Broncos under Shanahan used to be able to put any bumhole behind that line and they'd rush for 1,200 yards. |

With the way the rules are now,
it does make a lot of sense
Josh McDaniels is probably gonna get a HC job for next season if he wants
Are there any young up & coming OCs that we might look at?
I think we might have McD & Dabol with
Josh Allen all back next year though |

Can you explain this better for us dumb folks?
A 1-2 Million dollar player is either on an ELC or is a very cheap vet. We're arguing that Risto, Okpos and Bogo can be replaced by cagey vets and get the same results? How do we make that proclamation?
I'm genuinely interested. I wouldn't think any of those players would be negative or close to even when compared to a replacement player who would be either 4th line or 3rd pairing. What am I missing? |

We make that proclamation because over the last year or so those guys have been outperformed by a lot of ELC and cheap vet players.
In other words, they're doing just as badly in those roles as a rookie or cheap vet would be doing, the only difference is a poop ton of money. |

Nah, it’s just the hypocrisy in your posts can be astounding.
You drone on about how you can’t count on mid-late firsts to pan out, yet are handing NHL spots to second rounders, who have done jack in the AHL.
Of course everyone wants to “see them”. That’s not what you meant when you were talking about keeping O’Reilly and just plugging in Asplund and Nylander.
I’m all for getting cheap guys to replace the older vets. |

In that situation, it's always going to be your best 2 faceoff guys and a PKer. I wouldn't make roster decisions based on the last :30 seconds of the game |

Someone has to take a first period dzone draw against Stamkos. You don't want Jack doing that with any regularity, and you certainly don't want Skinner out there. At some point, we need a 2nd or 3rd line that's up to the challenge. For now, overusing a 4th line is fine.

I still wanna see Okposo on Jack’s RW to try & bump up his stats
Then hopefully we won’t have to pay to get someone to take him
Or at least not pay as much |
