The problem is, there aren't roster spots available elsewhere. Assuming they sign Skinner, you have

Skinner-Eichel-Reinhart
Sheary-Mitts-Okposo
Berglund-Sobotka-Erod (RFA)
Larsson-Girgs-Pominville

All signed for next year

So there's no movement on the roster for a team that is 19th in scoring. Allowing at least 2 of the 3 on the bottom line to walk would allow for Berglund, Okposo and even Sheary to comfortably slide down the depth chart, and you could bring in some more top-6 wing talent to really give the roster some scoring punch. Re-signing 28, 22 and 29 fuses the line-up into place

- jcragcrumple

Needs a couple trades, for sure. This isn't a group you want to roll into next year with.

2 games is a pretty damn small sample size

Secondary scoring has been far from consistent throughout this season

Hopefully... that’s changing now
I’m not convinced yet

- jdfitz77

This same sample size makes fans think Ullmark is the second coming of Grant Fuhr

Right, but If that's your 4th line next year, then we're talking about having pretty much the same forward group. Seems like a mistake imo
- jcragcrumple

Having those 3 on the 4th line isn’t where we need the big upgrade

Bringing in a winger like Stone,
and a good 3C are much bigger needs up front

The biggest upgrade would be moving out as much dead money as you can so that you can make these upgrades.

But re-signing the 4th line takes up roster spots that would allow for that, not to mention the cash, as illustrated by the mock lineup I posted

SO you want like an 8-9 mill 4th line?
- hubie

Where on earth did i say that?

1st... i said i “wouldn’t hate it” if line4 next year was Girgs-Larsson-Pommer

2nd... they’re costing nowhere near 8mil
Girgs & Larsson are about 1.5 each
And Pommer’s salary is cut down to 2.5m at the most

Didn’t think I’d need to break that down

Good grief
Do i type in another language?
THIS IS WHY I HAVE TO REPEAT MYSELF OVER & OVER

So changing line4 to
Asplund-Malone-O’Regan
makes the forwards any better?

How exactly?

I’ve never said that though
You apparently have no clue how to actually interpret just about anything i say
Bc u always restate it incorrectly

When i say stuff like,
I’d like to see Asplund, Nylander, Bailey, Smith, etc etc etc
That isn’t saying i expect them to step in & be the NHL player that some of these Vets are

It actually means...
that I’m just over these Vets who aren’t producing in the roles we need them to on the score sheet
Not to mention that neither of the StL guys has filled the “defensive center” role either
They’re both just average players that are ok, but they don’t do anything to move this team in the right direction
WHEREAS...
some of the kids MIGHT be able to
Maybe not right away, but at some point

Seriously...
draw up a lineup with forwards next year as YOU would do it
Pretty sure u won’t have Berglund or Sobatka in the top9
Not unless u feel we are stuck with them & have no choice

- jdfitz77

He & Jack both denied it
Even after ROR moved on
They had no reason to do so after the trade
Both are locked up to long term deals

Maybe we’d still be using him wrong here
But I’d still take him over the “parts” we got,
any day of the week

Even if we just got Thompson & the picks,
that would’ve been a better trade

Go ahead & make a lineup for next year,
and show me exactly where u want Berglund & Sobatka in it

I’d rather have Asplund & Nylander up
And use that Cap space to go after someone like Stone, etc

These two are most likely cycled in and out of the lineup

Skinner-Eichel-FA/trade
Nylander-Mitts-Reinhart
Olofsson-FA/trade-Okposo
Sheary-Malone-Berglund
O'Regan/Erod
Sobotka

He also played banged up
Is hurt again this year
And was hurt in college 2 of his 4 seasons

So that’s 3 of the past 5 years he’s dealt with injuries

I like the player
Just don’t know that he can stay healthy

I would rather have them up
Bc they POTENTIALLY bring more than just being an average player who isn’t performing the role they’re supposed to

Are u really that thick headed
It’s not that i think Asplund is gonna score 20goals this year
It’s that I’m done with guys like Berglund & Sobatka
They’re ok
But they’re also slow
And not scoring really

If we are gonna have players up here not scoring,
might as well be kids who can skate & play the style of game we want
Kids who MIGHT be part of the FUTURE
Need to see them here to find out though

I’ve seen enough of the average players who aren’t doing much

Still waiting to see your lineup next year
Don’t forget to bring back Pouliot😂😂😂

If he can get over the injuries...
Malone could be a good fit for a 4th line role

Plays a bit scrappy & does have some offensive ability

I do like him

The Jags are very good on the defensive side of the ball.

Allen wasn't very quick at getting the ball out in his previous starts. That's the only reason I would sit him one extra week.

Allen plays the week after Jacksonville.

It is more of a sheltering the rookie type of move. Plus McDermott is in a tough spot. The offense just put up 41 points. The defense has been playing lights out and getting no points from the offense. He could lose the locker room if they start Allen and can't show any life of offense.

Plus if you start Allen and he starts the game off poorly he could be looking over his shoulder knowing Barkley is there.

The Jets defense is not awful they were ranked in the top half of the league going into the game yesterday. The just laid an egg yesterday.

- Stripes77

McDermott is going to make a hell of a defensive coordinator some day. He's just not a head coach. I see Wade Phillips 2.0, not quite as good as the OG, but quite good nonetheless.
