There is obviously a part of that in negotiations for young players...there always has.

But you can’t give Nylander the money because he might put up Pasternak or Gaudreau numbers if he put up 75 points and 34 goals in 75 games then yes, we can pay him like he will. But he didn’t.

Dubas isn’t dumb enough to give into this and we will see if Nylander is dumb enough to miss out on a season to prove a point.

if you look at just 5v5 points. they are pretty close. WN is one of the better 5v5 scorers in the League. its just the PP thats the difference if you look at last season

points at 5v5
WN - 45 (13 Power play)
DP - 48 (26 powerplay)

Power play results can vary a lot season to season. the 5v5 results gives you a much better idea of whats going on.

Leafs are lucky WN had a down season on the PP or he would have 70-75 points also

Linemates make of the rest of the diff imo

They dont get a share in the gambling money, just selling their data. So it might not be as big as you'd hope.

I'm sure they're not selling the data for cheap though?

A down season?
He had the same amount of points as the prior year, nothing to suggest it was a down season on the pp or otherwise. Just making up stuff now.

That’s fantastic.

Two seasons in a row he didn’t get those points...that is not a positive in his negotiation points. Its a negative.

But Willie is playing with Matthews, one of the best 5 vs 5 in the past 2 years. Has to skew his numbers.

Willie: Listen, I want $7m to $8m per...

Harry Potter: Me too Willie, but Hyman scored as many goals 5v5 as you did last year and he's only getting $2m....take the $6m and make out like you won the lottery.

I thought the NHL had parts of it.... it does make things way more ethical though.

The NHL didn't - and still doesn't - want anything to do with gambling.

Since the US Supreme Court legalized sports betting it would be stupid not to take part in it, make some profit and try to drive the conversation.

Bettman said that the league should bring in about $300M this season from it, so they're doing a lot more than 'selling data.'

his PP points were down from 26 to 12, so yes he was down. WN and AM were on the second PP unit, they didnt get the top minutes so yes that matters.

I am not making stuff up. Opportunity and PP minutes matter a lot to a players production. I am not making this up, its actually a thing

so his 5v5 production improved from 31 to 45. so at evens when it matters he got better by a large margin.

if you think thats not important..well good luck

I think Senstroll brings some valid points to the conversation. At least from my perspective.

Since when do we discuss things to change one's mind anyway?

- Scabeh

Yeah, he does have valid points. I won't argue that..

The player perspective: "I should be paid X amount of dollars, because I will score 30 goals in this league in no time and be a top tier player soon".

Management perspective: "No, you'll sign for this because you haven't done any of those things yet"

We'll see how this plays out, and hopefully, it's a positive outcome for all sides.

Maybe, but what he doesn't control are the betting games. I'm sure the vast majority of that money comes from licensing NHL trademarks, so the more people offering games the more revenue they will make.
