A bridge deal, and we're opening up to a potential Subban situation. I think Dubas needs to stick to what's being offered

Bridge deal and then play him with Gauthier and Leivo.....

A bridge (say 3 x 5.25) gives the Leafs WN and some cap certainty. He maintains the asset and enough flexibility to get Matthews and Marner locked in. Marleau walks in 2020 and the Leafs can then make some decisions on WN's future.

If he takes 6+ years at 7 or less great ..get 'er done. If he values his UFA years more than they do then give him the bridge. 3 or 4 years is a long time.

Invalid partition error now. Should have just told her she needs to use a (frank)ing headset and die in a fire.

an uneducated question.

did you try to roll back the drivers?

Going to Cali any time soon?

that could work, or simply designating him as the 13th forward.

5.25M per would be fantastic for the Leafs... It will hurt us a lot after that 3rd year though, if he exceeds all expectations and puts up 80+ points in all 3 seasons..

A good problem to have and if WN puts 80+ points up the next 3 years we will have a few long Cup runs to be happy with.

That deal did seem to fall outside the 'norm'. Willie's next 5 years are tied up by the RFA tag .....arb decisions and other signings create the precedent. His RFA years are probably 5 years at an average of about 6 million. But the Leafs want to buy UFA years and WN could easily argue that in 5 years he'll be a 10+ million dollar player. If Dubas wants 8 years then WN could easier argue he's worth 60 million.

The bridge deal makes the most sense and it seems to be a good thing for the Leafs because they can bypass the Marleau contract. I'd still guess that Dubas will offer the 2 or 3 year deal next week and this will get done. They give him a big signing bonus and WN avoids losing money in year one.

Based upon Plekanek's termination of contract, wild conjecture, a cursory glance of the CBA and just good, old-fashioned wishful thinking, here's what I believe the Leafs could do:

Agree to mutual termination of Marleau's contract on July 2nd, 2019. Marleau walks with $3 million for his troubles, leaving only $1.25 million on the table. He's free to sign with another team if he wants, or just retire. Either way, no cap hit for the 2019-20 season.

Plus sign a 5y contract as Leafs scout / assistant assistant manager or whatever.
(btw what happened to Robidas? still on Leafs' staff?)

Bigly if true;

Sources confirm to me #NYR are one of the teams that reached out to Toronto about Nylander. Doesn’t appear NYR is a major player though. Look at the Kings, Canes, and Ducks as players #GoKingsGo #LetsGoDucks #TakeWarning #TMLtalk

What about Kevin Shattenkirk?

I really like the idea of the Leafs getting a wily vet who can mentor the young players. The guy has plenty of playoff experience - the kind of intangibles that you can't really put a price on.

I'd happily give up a bit of the Leafs' future to solidfy our present lineup.

I blame Edmonton for all this poop with RFA's. They were the ones who started giving their guys 6 million dollar long term contracts right out of ELCs. Eberle, Hall, Nuge.

Would welcome Shattenkirk on the Leafs. Would not welcome any deal to the Rags that involved Nylander. There isn't a single piece in their prospect pool that could even be used to leverage a decent deal for Willie. They'd have to add 1st rounders to make it palatable.

Rangers GM did the right thing. I can't blame him on this one.
