As much as it kills me as a Leafs fan to say this, the salary cap makes the entire league healthier.

Baseball is a stupid sport - even with the luxury tax, the Jays have no hope of competing against the Sox and Yankees. Their only hope is to get a wild card in a year when one of the Sox or Yankees is rebuilding or has imploded.

And don't even get me started about soccer. Every year, pick any major league - there's only 3-4 teams (the same teams every year) who can win it. It's franking boring. Why even bother watching?

Can you imagine? If we got the pick and it turned out to be a star player, that would be an epic troll job for a good 15 years of trolling!!!

Based upon Plekanek's termination of contract, wild conjecture, a cursory glance of the CBA and just good, old-fashioned wishful thinking, here's what I believe the Leafs could do:

Agree to mutual termination of Marleau's contract on July 2nd, 2019. Marleau walks with $3 million for his troubles, leaving only $1.25 million on the table. He's free to sign with another team if he wants, or just retire. Either way, no cap hit for the 2019-20 season.
