If Moore played baseball instead he could of avoided the whole incident. That's what he gets for waving a $100 bill in a strip club.

Yeah I also forgot that the government doesn't prosecute murders in dangerous neighborhoods if you don't belong there and have currency on your person.

Clearly Sundqvist skated in the zone, looked up and smiled at Wilson, gave him a wave then yelled "I see you sneaky butt" and proceeded to shoot the puck.

Clearly.

scott stevens delivered those hits on a nightly basis and was not only applauded but had the red carpet rolled out to the hall of fame.
wilson grew up idolizing that brand of hockey.....over the last few years big open ice hits are no longer allowed and he's simply not able to adjust his basic instinct and play within the new rules (which judging by the disparity in calls, are still in a gray area and being refined each season.)
That is completely different than someone taking PED's which are ridiculously black and white in terms of their place in the NHL and the subsequent suspension.

This is a point I bring up sometimes. The kids around Wilson age were still taught that those were good hits. It'll take some time for the adjustments to filter through. People forget that the hit which started the crackdown, wasn't even suspendable under the rules at the time. Cooke's hit on Savard is when the rules were changed.

I can't believe people are defending a blatant Malkin elbow to the face.... Malkin passes the puck, Oshie is making NO effort to actually "check" Malkin (seeing as he PASSED THE PUCK AT THE LAST SECOND) and Malkin casually throws his elbow at the last second...

My god people, even great players can play scuzzy here and there.

Seems like the arbitrator has made some bad calls, and paid for it as well, prior.

Moore did fight someone earlier in the game, and this was the second game after the initial Naslund hit. So, Moore probably thought it should have been over, especially considering that he fought another Canuck earlier. I think it's poor taste to say Moore was obligated to fight Bertuzzi either way, but especially given the fact that he squared up already over it.
edit; also, I'm sorry, but what is with the horrible comparisons in these comments today?

- Blackstrom2

Who is saying he is obligated? I am just saying, if he does Bertuzzi cools off and it never happens. Again I am not justifying his actions. I am just saying it could have been avoided. You have to look at things this way, you cant just expect people to be law abiding citizens. This isnt a perfect world. Best you can do is follow the rules yourself and take steps to avoid putting yourself in a bad situation. Its like being out at night at 2 am in the morning. You arent going to walk down a dark alley at that time of day because you are avoiding putting yourself in a bad situation.

Except that logic, while still massively flawed, doesn't even remotely apply to either the Bertuzzi/Moore or Wilson/Sundqvist incidents.

You can absolutely step onto the ice with a reasonable expectation that you won't have your head taken off by a blindside hit at 100mph or have someone skate up behind you, sucker-punch you, and then plow your head into the ice with all their weight behind it.

There is no "dark alley at 2am" in professional sports, an NHL rink isn't Chicago after an ammunition clearance sale.

Tom Wilson gets to play.

Meanwhile, Pete Rose is banned for life from professional baseball, and Donald Sterling is banned from the NBA for life.

What the....?

That arbitrator .... and the players union, and the Capitals for that matter, are now front and center as targets for suites when Wilson inevitably injures someone else. Any one of his cheap shots occurs in the games prior to when his suspension was supposed to end, than the injured player should be filing.

Maybe that will get the idiot off the ice.

Right on Jimmy, what a joke. Wilson does not deserve to be back before 20 is up in my opinion, next incident he should be given a year off to life. I can not believe the morons supporting this turd

BLOOD BATH on january 3rd .... this is going to be a game I will Watch!
- OMG_RUMOUR_BLOG

You're dreaming buddy if you think the Blues will seek vengeance for that hit. Trust me, there is nobody on this team with any heart. I've never watched a team who didn't have a team mates back worse than this one. Sundqvist's first game back after the hit he had his face cross checked into the ice and no one said a word. The Blues are as far removed from "old time hockey" as you can get and as a Blues fan it breaks my heart.

No you cant because when you dont know what people will do. You are in control of yourself and that is it. Do you not think its a reasonable expectation to go to a concert and not get shot? Yes in a perfect world it would be but it still happens. Guys like Tom Wilson arent new to the NHL, We have had people like him, Bertuzzi, McSorly(Spelling?), Chris Simon, Marchand, Matt Cooke, Lucic ect. Even Keith to a certain extent. There are 100s of plays that you have an expectation to not see when you hit the ice yet they happen and they happen often. People break rules and some people do want to hurt others. There is no way to stop that because you cant know how people think. All you can do is discipline them afterwards and NHL sure as hell has not been doing that.

At least two people in this thread repeat the urban legend that Sundquist dropped his head. The ground level video above clearly shows that he did not.

Congratulations. After years of lurking, the stupid comments in this thread got me to register. The Steve Moore revisionist stuff is beyond even commenting about.

Ok? So you blame the people that get shot at concerts for attending the concert instead of locking themselves in their house like paranoid hermits?

Nobody is saying the world, or the NHL, is some sort of idealistic Utopian society where everything is as it should be. But that doesn't mean that you go victim blaming because guys try to go out there and do their jobs, which in this case requires them to play hockey.

It's not Oskar Sundqvist's fault that the NHL doesn't provide him with a Scumbag GPS tracker that alerts him every time Tom Wilson drags his knuckles over the boards and on to the ice.

Was ordered by Bylsma. Same for Tyutin, Anisimov and the attempt on E. Kane. He never did anything close to that after he was separated from Disco Dan nor did he before when played for Vancouver. At least this my fully baked, alcohol sodden theory.

EDIT: Come to think of it, Orpik wasn't exactly a clean player under Bylsma either.
