Even if he's around, you'd think at some point they'd have to realise they need someone else to glue together contracts for them.

Like I said you don't need to be a Crosby to have a 200' game

Beagle's cup ring might have a few things to say...

- LordHumungous

So does Eriksson's.... doesn't make him a good player or as good a 200 foot player as Ovechkin.

The 20-21 season cap is going to be a (frank)ing delight to watch these guys manage.
- Lindenis#1

Not to worried about the 20-21 season, as I believe there will be another lockout.
Bones of contention will be, escrow, for the players, and % of cap allowed to be spent on an individual player salary, for the owners.

Aquilini probably plans to fire him after the season. Or else he would have brought in a new Prez already. Either that or he is tightening the purse strings

Needs to pay Gagner somehow....

It seems quite a few here only think that scoring is attributed to the offensive game, Beagle and Sutter are both excellent 200' players. They tirelessly work the boards to keep the play in the offensive zone to allow all the 100' forwards to reap what ever glory they can.

Hilarious thing about the Weisbrod hire is that people were happy that Benning was a "hockey guy" but yet his right hand man, Weisbrod, wasn't even involved with hockey at all 13 years ago, he was a NBA executive

That's about as non-hockey as it gets.

I think 20-21 might be okay actually. 21-22 could project to be an issue.

20-21 is going to have about 25 mil in 6 players in depth roles. Baertschi, Sutter, Beagle, Roussel, Eriksson, Gudbranson.

Horvat, EP and Luongo's retainer are the only commitments on the books at like ~10 depending on EP's exact bonus structure.

So ~55 million to sign 2 goalies, 5 D and 7 forwards just to ice a lineup, +3 popcorn players.

Boeser, Virtanen, Stecher, Hutton, Granlund, Motte, Guadette, Goldobin all will need new deals. That could total around 30(?) assuming things stay relatively linear and predictable.

So then you're at like ~25 million for 2 goalies, 3 D and 1 F and 3 popcorn eaters.

Demko will be on a new deal that we'll call like Gibson's old contract at 2.3m. Any useful backup will be around 2+. OJ and Hughes will need up to 3M with bonuses so that's basically another 10 million in commitments there leaves you 15 ish for 1F, 1D and 3 players sucking back popcorn.

So things will probably actually be pretty okay that year. But its when those guys are are all in the middle of their deals and the expensive vets are around that things could get tough in 21-22 as that's when you're sitting on a 12 million dollar extension for Pettersson and your roster still might have some real holes in it when it comes to RD and ++ complimentary pieces.

I think a front office needs a mix of hockey people and smart managers to be successful.

He went from GMing the.. IHL(?) team in Orlando to GMing the NBA team to flunking out and being Feaster's BFF in Calgary during that incredible run of futility (depending who you believe on the O'Reilly offersheet it was either his or Feaster's golden idea) to coming to Vancouver when the franchise is at its worst since Keenan and Messier.

So you're saying that they work tirelessly in the 100 feet of D zone to get the puck into the O zone for other 100 foot players to score?

Sure sounds like that's what you're saying.
Good troll job. I bought it

Horvat is a good 200 foot player
Sutter is a great 100 foot player and an average 200 foot player.
Beale is a good 100 foot player and a poor 200 foot player
Gaunce is a good 100 foot player and a poor 200 foot player.

Nope you have it all wrong, Beagle and Sutter defuse the play in the defensive zone work the puck up the ice into the offensive zone and maintain that presence, all while there are line changes going on.

Then over the boards come the 100' G-string boys (who are thin on skill and lack any real material substance) who lose possession and chase the puck back into the defensive zone. Puck is frozen and back onto the ice come either Sutter or Beagle to "win" the faceoff and push the play up 200' so Pettersson or Horvat can win the offensive zone faceoff.

Didn't Bo say that watching EP in the defensive zone inspired Bo himself him to play better in the defensive zone?

I guess he realized he would be constantly taking the defensive zone faceoffs after watching Pettersson...so he needed to get better at it.

Not sure, but his role is more business/law orientated than day to day hockey management so it’s apples and oranges.
