Not sure, but his role is more business/law orientated than day to day hockey management so it’s apples and oranges.

It may be, but, you do realize that Weisbrod was involved in the IHL, Orlanda I believe, before it folded and then became involved in NBA, so he was a hockey guy first, which is not really what your original post claimed.

Nope you have it all wrong, Beagle and Sutter defuse the play in the defensive zone work the puck up the ice into the offensive zone and maintain that presence, all while there are line changes going on.

Then over the boards come the 100' G-string boys (who are thin on skill and lack any real material substance) who lose possession and chase the puck back into the defensive zone. Puck is frozen and back onto the ice come either Sutter or Beagle to "win" the faceoff and push the play up 200' so Pettersson or Horvat can win the offensive zone faceoff.

A 200-foot game is an expression used in ice hockey to describe a forward's ability to have strong play at both ends of an ice rink, which is standardized at 200 feet long. Players who can play a 200-foot game are contrasted with players who score a lot of points by avoiding hard forechecking or backchecking, cherry picking their plays perhaps for breakaways, and avoiding fighting for the puck in the corners of the rink, such as Pavel Bure or Brett Hull. Playing a 200-foot game means fighting for each part of the ice, fighting for control of the puck whether it's in one's possession or not, and engaging using your body in traffic. Some examples of players who play or played a 200-foot game include Sidney Crosby, Mike Richards, Marián Hossa, Jonathan Toews, Pavel Datsyuk, Auston Matthews, Wayne Gretzky, Gordie Howe, and Ryan McDonagh.[1][2]

Having players able to play a 200-foot game is considered key to success in the modern game

I just have a hard time putting beagle in that mix.

It’s pretty subjective so there’s no right or wrong answer.

To me a “hockey guy” is someone who’s been involved with the sport for their entire lives, especially as an adult. Not a guy who was a GM in another sport for a couple of years.

A lot of the same management principles work regardless of sport, not like he's the only person to come over from another league/profession and be successful. Lots of different skills are applicable that have nothing to do with hockey.

I agree, in my original post I was making fun of people who just assume that anyone who’s been around the game long enough is due for a promotion.

I had a feeling I was missing out on some nuance. Yes, I think teams are getting more creative than that these days. Dubas and Chayka, for example, are ways of trying to get an edge by thinking outside of the box in terms of management. The next hockey guy is an old way of thinking. The league, much like it's players, is headed in a new direction and some old schoolers cant keep up.

Besides the Canucks who's surprised you this year so far? LA sucking? St. Louis sucking? Montreal's success? Rangers success? Buffalo being so good?

There's a reason why he plays 12-13 minutes per night. But he's a effective as a 4th line guy. Sutter and Bo are guys who match up against top lines every night for 18-20 minutes. That's a 200 foot player in my mind

Montreal for me. Domi is the least talked about player and is just dominating. looking back on the Galchenyuk trade I think a few of us have change our minds about who won that trade. Galchenyuk has been not bad in Arizona so far though.

If the Canucks play 500 or better into January, would you like to see them be buyers or sellers at the TDL? Keep in mind they only really have to play .500 puck and they will likely make the playoffs at this point.

Last year when I watched the Flyers vs Coyotes in Phoenix Domi looked completely disinterested, he's obviously found his passion for the game again. Montreal playing well but I think Price is a huge part of that!

A lot of teams that went really young have actually had good starts, Canucks, Rangers, Islanders.

Were getting to the 1/4 season mark, you can't really say that meaningfully for much longer IMO. two more weeks and it's a moot point.

If anyone on this team had 12 goals and 10 assists in Van after 18 games there would be a lineup for him to be handed off in the Roxy every night. Sometimes it would be women in the lineup.

In another two months I expect Montreal, New York Rangers, New York Islanders & Vancouver Canucks to all decline. Buffalo looks to have found a good mix after some excellent draft positions, I think they're about to take off like the Jets did.

In a way playing well has put us in a position to sell high on some guys that we couldn't normally get a bag of pucks for. I hope LE scores 10-20 goals, then he might actually be tradable, for example. Hutton has value?! Do we keep him and hope he can do this, sell him or Guddy? Both? It's an interesting spot, I really hope they don't buy
