Maybe late...

Laughton looks to be 4C with Lehtera sitting.

JVR on the #1 PP with Jake, G, Coots and Ghost.

2nd unit with Weal, Patrick, Simmonds, Konecny and Prov.

I wouldn't mind seeing them replace Provorov with Sanheim. Limit some responsibility with Provorov while rewarding a player whose is playing with some confidence.

Agreed - he plays almost every second of a PK as well. Provy only gets a rest when he's in the sin bin.

So we’re coming off a loss. JvR will be returning. Laughton was moved to center last night. I hope and expect more changes. I’m just hoping the changes aren’t crazy. A Simmonds, JvR, Laughton lone shouldn’t appeal to anyone. I don’t think it should be as much a concern that Laughton isn’t the best playmaker as oppose to the right mix. I don’t think Coots has been that steady playmaker but he doesn’t have to be if he’s playing with a winger who can make plays.

Im starting to wonder what is wrong with Provorov.

Long term I don't think its an issue, but right now it seems as if his game has taken a noticeable step backwards. Either he is injured or his playoff injury got in his head somehow.

IMO we don't need another top pair level defenseman to play with him, but what he does need is a Chris Therien type vet/player to run shotgun. A guy who will be Robin to his Batman.

Perhaps Morin can be that guy. Perhaps it needs to be a vet.

IMO after it all shakes out we will have three pairs anchored by Provorov, Sanheim, and Ghost, paired with players who compliment them. Myers, Morin, and Hagg can be those types of players in the future I hope.

This talk about getting a top pair guy via trade is always something to look at, but the cost will be WAY more than what most people realize. Both in assets and cap hit.

- MBFlyerfan

I would be thrilled if an in house guy can be the guy to pair with Provy, but since Provy almost always plays the left side, it will have to be someone comfortable on the right side. I can't see Morin, except perhaps on the PK, filling that role. He will need a season or 2 just to acclimate to the speed of the NHL and he will probably need to play on his natural left side and not against the other teams top line on a regular basis.

Sanheim could eventually be that guy someday, his combo of wheels and size is rare. However, I don't think he's ready to be a top pair guy on his natural side yet, let alone the off side. Myers is probably the best bet to fill this role and if he's not up at some point this year, it will be a little frustrating.

I know they are a legit (hopefully) playoff team, but they are not winning a Cup this season. Gudas has played well, is a RH shot and is signed to a reasonable deal with only one year left. Now is the time to think about moving him. Maybe not at this moment, but sometime around mid season. Myers and Sanheim were a very good pairing for the Phantoms in the playoffs last season. Let them spend the last half of 18-19 as the Flyers 3rd pair.

If Myers continues to progress well, than hopefully by 20-21, just when (again hopefully) Hart or even Sandstrom is ready to take over as the #1 guy in goal, Myers can step up with Provy on the top pairing and we could perhaps see a D group something like:

Provorov-Myers
Morin or Sanheim-Ghost
Morin or Sanheim-Hagg or Friedman

I think realistically 20-21 is the earliest that this team will be ready to challenge for a Cup. If you don't think there is a guy to pair with Provy on the top pair by the end of 19-20, that's when you try and make a trade.

We lost to a trash team, our special teams are the worst in the league and we're already almost a quarter of the way through the season.

Well it was fun while it lasted guys...

Flyers already have a player they can pair with Provorov. That's Gostisbehere. That pairing should see heavy neutral zone and offensive zone starts and play with the Giroux or Patrick line as much as possible. The Flyers need to develop a shut down pairing that can take a lot of the heavy lifting in D zone starts and play against top lines. That's the best formula moving forward.

So LA just gifted Tanner Pearson to Pittsburgh for Haeglin (spelling?) straight up.

I know! Doesn’t make sense. If Hagelin doesn’t sign, they gave him up for nothing. Even if he does, Pearson is a lot younger.

Don’t really like having the 2 LH net guys on one unit and 2 RH on the 2nd

Perhaps in the future a pair like Morin/Myers can do that but that’s still a ways away

Any news about Morin? Any chance he will be cleared sometime this year? Or is it more realistic to expect him to finally be ready from his MCL until next year?

Without looking it up, I think the target return is late Jan into Feburary

At this point, the only news you would hear regarding his injury is a setback. Should know more in a couple months.

Hello.

JVR coming back adds another threat to a team playing pretty effective 5v5 hockey. Perhaps it forces Lehtera to sit? I'd rather see Laughton at wing, but if putting him at C gets Lehtera out, then yay.

More importantly, JVR coming back might (MIGHT) jumpstart the PP. I am not holding out hope for this.

PK still the NHL's laughing (Hak)stok.

Elliot playing well.

Player usage is (frank)ed. Especially on D.

Lindblom looking real, real solid.

Goodbye.

Nice of you to show up. Funny how you have nothing to say when the Flyers are winning. It was nice, two weeks without you here

A rare GiG sighting.. It's like a game without a PP goal against.

That's absurd. The coaching staff deserves credit for making round pegs fit in square holes.

Hooray!

I'm liking what we see out of NAK, kid is tenacious out there and tbh wins most of the board battles he gets into. Much like Lindblom. Hope he see's a few more minutes of ice.

Weal looking comfortable out there too. Making things happen and creating.

The team has been playing inconsistently in the NZ. Strength is transition offense on this team. A lot of their goals are off line rushes. Forcing those turnovers in the NZ is the key to this team.

First 10 minutes last night were well played, but then they started sitting back. Folin didn't even CONSIDER stepping up on Dadonov until almost our faceooff dot. Unleashed in the 3rd- ravenous on the puck... and lo and behold....

The PK? We can see goals coming 3 steps in advance. That's how slow and passive it is. Laughton still having a good PK year. Seems like every other game he'd in the middle of a little something offensively while shorthanded.

Sanheim and Gudas are our best pair and need to play more.
