oh, of course.....well, now that I think about it, ya...definitely worth a 26 year old 1st rounder who averages 40 points a year.

It's still poor asset management none the less. It was said they kept Forbort over McNabb because it would look bad just letting another 1st rounder go. Well here we go again.

They also weren't 31st in the NHL at the time. No one is going to give up anything significant for a player that has been trending downward over the last season and a half and has 0 goals and 1 point 20% of the way through this season.

Right now the Kings only have two options. Stand pat, or trade from a position of weakness. The former does nothing to get this team playing better, while the latter means that you're going to get very underwhelming returns for the players you ship out. This trade was the minimum the Kings could do to clear up salary space while not giving away too much.

I dont believe this to be true at all. And im not suggesting that Pearson is worth a whole lot. This isnt a return at all. Its giving away Pearson for cap relief over the next 2 years. Even a Pens fan posted saying, why didnt Pitts add even a pick. Pearson shouldn't have been a salary dump. Im fine with trading him. But not like this.

This is exactly what it is. My point is that the Kings are lucky that they were able to get 2 years worth of cap relief in exchange for only Tanner Pearson.

Imagine if that was the return everytime someone has a bad year. Let alone a bad year on a incompetent team.

Smart move by the Kings to get older. 10/10 trade
- CoHo_to_B-Lo

Hagelin is gone before March and they get picks for him and also remove what is now appearing to be a very bad contract.

Kings are going the way of the Sabres, tank and hope you get a guy like Eichel in the draft.

As a fan i am okay with that, because Buffalo set them self up with lots of assets and then were able to trade some away to solidify areas that needed it.

If it was just Pearson having a bad year, then this wouldn't happen. However, the entire team is having a catastrophically terrible year, and something had to give. Right now, any player that the Kings try and trade, excepting Doughty and players on ELCs, are going to get a lackluster return at best.

As Blake said in his interview after firing John Stevens, the coach was the first step, but the players need to be put on notice that they shouldn't get too comfortable if the situation doesn't improve. This trade had the dual effect of sending that message to the players, as well as solving the cap issue for next season. Sure, the return is disappointing, but it was the best case scenario that the Kings could hope for under the circumstances. At this point, they can still claim that he's just having an off-month. If he continues his downward spiral over the course of an entire season, his contract would move into the "untradeable" category, and we'd be giving up picks to get his contract off the books, not the other way around.

Such a stupid trade for the Kings. Worse team in scoring so they get someone who isn't a goal scorer and has 1 this year for Pearson whom is in a good contract and has a lot of potential. Why not get picks? I doubt they re-sign this guy at the end of the season so basically gave Pearson away for free.

At least this just helps the Kings tank more so maybe they can get the #1 overall pick.

- Bojangle

Step 1 rid yourself of a guy who is getting paid 3.75 Million a year for 2 years after this one. The problem is you have to help a team shed salary to take what potentially could be a bad salary.

Step 2 you take back a guy who is on the last year of his deal, that means come the trade deadline some team will flip you a pick or 2 because teams don't have to take his salary hit long term

So you shed both salary and get picks.

Even if Pearson does well in Pittsburgh the point is he was struggling here, Kings have to shake things up. And to your last point hopefully continue to tank

Glad Rutherford is back. Keep that train wreck going. Seriously though, who better are they gonna get right now, even though he's made some boneheaded moves ?

Would argue cap space and ridding yourself of what could be questionable contract trumps a skill set of a player like Pearson.

while it make sense, I don't see anybody giving you TWO picks for Hagelin. Be happy if you get one

Given his contract he probably garners a 3rd or 4th and if he actually puts up some point on the sorry offense that is the LA Kings might bump to a 2nd. If lots of teams are fighting for spot, who knows what kind of value.

Kings need to rid themselves of lots of comfortable players, Martinez, Muzzin, Carter at this point probably need to pack their bags.

The Kings have not significantly turned over this roster for like 7 years, you want players in the room to like each other, but not to the point where everyone is afraid to call guys out on effort.

Honestly believe the fact Quick is out with an injury, has resulted in guys just taking it easy. Quick is the only guy on the roster who has fire in him to confront opponents and to some extent his own guys.

Rutherford has made far more good moves than bad. I won't lie that I'm a little concerned about possible future moves, but I have faith in him.

I'm a fan of this trade. Person has been consistent in his career until this year, so I'm gonna say it's an aberration. Obviously time will tell, but I firmly believe this is a case of needing a change of scenery.

C'mon dude, it's a 2Real sighting! The best this website ever was was when he and Matt Barry were going at it. You guys will love Hagelin, he skates really fast.

Wonderful. We can put Kempe, Wagner, and Hagelin on a line. They can skate circles around everyone and end the season with 10 goals between them.

This will free up some money for the summer, when the Kings can sign the next Tanner Pearson. Actually, that's not fair and I think that Pearson will end up with his average numbers this season playing with better players.

Unfortunately the money that is cleared up by Pearson/Hagelin coming off the books will be consumed by Doughty's extension. There might be a spare million or so freed up, but not enough to acquire an impact player.

Funny you say that. I thought exactly about Barry and then thought about how much I miss that guy. I guess now we have Tanner.
