Is this the point where we start trading younger players/prospects for other teams veterans? I didn't think we were that dumb yet, but who knows with Dubas
Seriously though, we all remember back when the gong show started with trades for guys like Nolan, Housley, Francis, Leech...
Stay the course Dubas. If we have to trade someone (like Nylander) get back other young players and picks/prospects to replenish the cupboards. That is the only way to ensure long term success. I mean, just look at us. Talking about cap numbers already and losing players and we have won nothing! The key is to keep bringing guys through the system... not trading for vets. You can sign a few as UFAs, but for gods sake don't trade away guys like Bracco for players in the twilight of their career! - Hockey_Reverend
don't think you have too much to worry about there... there's really nothing to indicate that Dubas is in love with older guys like a Pat Quinn used to be.
that trade proposal Keith for whoever is pretty ridiculous...
you'd have to believe that Dubas has already been presented with a bunch of teams veiled attempts at cap dumps in return for Nylander.. etc... He(Dubas) knows he needs to hit a homerun in a trade - there's way too much press out there hinting at the Hall trade as the "thing to watch out for"...
if he had a good offer for a up echelon D man he would probably made the deal already ...
its a classic game of chicken at this point... will Nylander decide he's willing sit a year and forego a year's worth of money and hockey career damage that will result (image wise) or will he not.
all the trade talk heating up will do nothing but put more pressure on Nylander (not his agent or his Dad) if he really does want to stay in Toronto..
in my opinion the only way "out of this" for Nylander at this point is to sign a cheap enough bridge deal for 2 or 3 years to allow Dubas to keep him without crunching the CAP - if he(Nylander) does this.. he sends an undeniable signal he wants to stay (which doesn't guarantee anything) and gives him a real chance at a big payday at the end of the bridge. Show me time. If he gets dealt, then he can still do the same somewhere else.
but it has to be pretty clear at this point that Dubas is willing to let him sit out ... and that Nylander isn't getting 6 or 7 years at anything close to the 8M speculated about. |

Nylander for Myers and Connor
who says no? - Arctic_AARDVARK
No for me. You are doing a sideways move here. Myers is UFA and despite his "big name", he is actually a really bad DMan now. |

If anyone would not grade UFA defensive liability Gardiner for Keith (5.5m).....

Duncan Keith is 35 years old and wasn't very good last season. He's slowing down rapidly.
Something about playing almost 900 games in 9 years. |
