Usually they'll ink a deal according to what the new team is willing to offer then trade. If you're doing it before its basically trading for his rights.

I find the whole Nylander situation in Toronto funny. When the Jets were having trouble signing Trouba, all I heard from leaf fans was..."no one wants to play in Winnipeg". Now that Nylander is not signing there..... |
