Maata+Spring?

Then go after Faulk?

- sammy87

If that were an option, sure, but the Leafs are pretty set at LD and need an RD desperately, and Maatta's not nearly valuable enough to make that trade for Nylander work. Lost in all the "he doesn't deserve 8 mil AAV" narratives out there is exactly how good Nylander is. He's a top line winger. Maatta is a top 4 LD, which of course don't grow on trees, but are also not the hardest thing to find in the world. And Sprong's value is pretty tanked.

If Lou was still there maybe, but I don't think we can get one on Dubas like that. I think we'd have to start with Letang, which would be idiotic for us.
- Victoro311

I don't know that his value is that high. He could pull a leveon bell no? I'm sure the details are a little different, but same gist.

Maatta and Sprongs contracts aren't enough to fit Nylander. Why I added Rust into that equation. Or maybe Horny but I doubt the leafs wanna take all of that cap hit from Maatta and Horny.

So make it maata, horny, and a first for
Nylander, marincin/McDermott, and a mid level pick

Is Nylander playing? I havent followed this saga just know he's looking for a deal and leafs are looking for a trade....Says he's a RFA so what would he be worth this year?

He's not playing and from what I hear he's looking for 7-8mil range so basically he's not coming here haha.

Possible deadline deal he is UFA next year. As long as he can truly play the LW. But who knows he'll be a high commodity at this deadline.

I like the move simply because there's a chance Pearson comes here and pots some goals. There was no hope that Hags was going to grow a new set of hands. For what it's worth, this is the kind of player I thought we needed to add in the off season to the bottom 6.

At what point does Sullivan and JR come to the conclusion that a significant adjustment to their system is in order? Every night we get out-shot while giving up multiple odd man breaks. This team is playing like Dan Bylsma's teams and it is pretty disturbing. Tanner Pearson and the next guy they add isn't going to change this fundamental problem.

I like this trade. Some had him linked to the Penguins in a Phil Kessel trade this offseason. He is somewhat young still. He has played on the PK. He is good in his defensive zone. He does have decent speed from what I have read, and he has a pretty good shot. The Kings just have been a bad team this year and we have slipped a bit. Hopefully this can jolt us. I do believe we still have another trade coming soon with Sprong heading the other way (rumors have the Coyotes, Rangers, Anaheim, Oilers, and Carolina interested). I just hope he can pull off his magic and land a good return for Sprong. I do think this was a good trade. It gives us another option on the ice. Also with Brassard coming back who knows? Maybe he catches fire and him and Brassard click and Malkin and Kessel rediscover their magic and we get 3 solid scoring lines.

Agreed we try playing like the '16 team but we aren't the fastest at all anymore we need to play smarter

Highly highly highly doubt the Pens have what it takes to get Nylander.

Your talkin Dumoulin, Sprong, 1st type and maybe Rust too. Nylander is a (frank)ing stud and probably deserves around 6m a year. Leafs aren’t gonna want Maatta and they might even want Guentzel. Just don’t see the Pens with assets to make it happen.

Indeed not good news... optimist could think it may be coz Pearson can't make it in time.

I think they'd just let Sprong have a game. I guess it's possible they have a deal lined up and don't want him getting hurt, but I imagine it's the obvious reason.

If the Pens don't tighten up tomorrow, I think they'll get run out of their own building.

One thing about Hags though is that his production seemed to always majorly uptick in second half of season.

The Pens are worse defensively overall by losing Hags... So we better hope Pearson finds his O again.

MIN's beat writer Russo had a nice comment regarding GMJR's extension: "Congrats to Matt Cullen for extending his career to age 45" https://mobile.twitter.co...s/1062727624357748736?p=p

Pearson may not be Hags, but he's not devoid of a two-way game.

Well if their production stays the same, I'd rather have Hagelin for the sole reason that he only has one year of term left.

Saw some Hornqvist quotes on twitter. Said this was a really hard day for his family. Seems shook.

- Victoro311

if you only knew.

They all seem shook up...Hags was a big presence in locker room. Hags was a guy Sullivan wanted before they got him. I dunno. I don't like losing him. Have bad feeling about it. Hope said feeling is misguided.

I don't have a bad feeling about it at all. Pearson will be a different dynamic, but I think he will fit.

I'd make the following next moves:

TO LA: Hornqvist
TO PIT: Either Martinez or Muzzin

TO TOR: Maatta
TO PIT: Connor Brown

It’s ok. We’ll trade him too soon.
