Random thoughts

-Apparently good defensive play is not valued by some on this board. If you dont score, you completely suck. No ffalue given to shuting down the oppositions $20m line with 2 top 10/15 players on it...all done by a line with 2 guys who make ~$3m between them. They play half the mi utes of the stars...of course they aren't going to match shift for shift. SMH.

-That said, let's do compliment our #1 D who plays with elite talent and plays 2x as much TOI for having 0+/- in a game. Woooohooo! About generating some GD offense you stiff. SMH.

-Expectations by some are that Rome was infact built in a day...and the Sabres should have their SC lineup in-place in one offseason from being the 1st team to finish 31st the seaon before. Give it time, it IS a transition year...some of this roster wont be here next year. Let the kids bake in the oven a bit longer. SMH.

-It is way early, however the red flags are flying high. I agree with a couple posters who wondered if Old Man Nylander will cause an issue with Alex...IF he EVER becomes an NHLer. Trade that friggin guy now! Playng at less than PPG in the A in his 3rd season, perimeter, set-up player....when Sabrex need finishers who go to the net consistently.

- Send Tage down to learn his craft by actully playing and executing what is being tought. Take skating lessons to learn how to effectively use your 6'5" body, rather than having if be a liability.

You know who liked hiking in the woods? Ted Bundy and Gary Ridgway

Yeah they look on a trajectory to the middle.

Looking at the standings, holy hell there aren’t too many really bad teams yet

I noticed this too. A ton of mediocre teams

Not sure you can. It’s a knife edge. If 4th line players start producing points, they become top 9 talent, then they are expected to produce consistently. And if top 9 talent focuses on D and stop producing, they become filthy douchbags that need to be cut/traded/assassinated immediately.

All of this is also related to draft position and current salary.

Go Sabres.

- Chris16

Except ours produces less than a 4th line and plays more than a 4th line

"The average point production for a fourth liner in the NHL is somewhere around 18-20 points over a 82 game season. Some will have more goals than others, but they typically end up around that mark. Some higher-end fourth liners excel beyond that, but then you could argue that they really should be a third-liner instead of toiling away on the fourth line, like a Brian Boyle."

That’s the issue with this though, rarely does a 4th liner who’s in the lineup from day 1 stay on the 4th line. Injuries force them up the lineup at certain times.

"Lockport is a weird, weird, place. Let me tell you why."

...

The good: The absolute best ice cream place on Earth - Lake Effect Ice Cream; The Palace Theater is gorgeous; Transit Drive-In; Um. That's about it.

Now all I need is a local to come in here telling me I 'don't get Lockport!"

No, but that’s not what he is doing well.

Right now they don’t want to overload CM or Eichel with D zone starts, so Larsson/Sobotka seem to be playing that role.

I seriously am not a Larsson fan but he’s been really impressive in a defensive role, and I’m sure it’s not a long term thing, but why change it right now?
