Wasn’t Pearson part of their top line with Toffoli and Carter, wasn’t it called “that’s 70s line “?, correct me if I’m wrong, but I don’t think he’s all that old. And since we have no wingers like that in our system I don’t see anything wrong with getting A guy with some size that will go in the corners and dig pucks out And play the body. Just a thought that is all.

You're right, and he is still young. I'm not opposed to trading for him, but Bowman (frank)ed everything up so bad that they don't have anything to offer that isn't scraps or an overpay IMO

Kane & Toews together, last 5 years.

1,113 minutes of 5 v 5 together
Hawks were out scored 60-56 in those minutes

Toews without Kane, his line out scored opponents 211-150

Kane without Toews, his line out scored opponents 246-193.

Kane and Toews are not the ‘nuclear option’. They actually make each other less effective

I saw in an article today that the Hawks PDO is way down for the year, which suggests that a regression to the mean would include better saves and a higher shooting percentage. Good signs among the depressing madness.

Orca, what excites me is the 1st period last game. That's the kind of effort vs a +skating up tempo team like CAR that I hoped for with the coaching change. He has mentioned he wants a go go forecheck which means playing fast. ......... More sustained efforts like that, coach finds some workable combinations for HIS systems, some health on the backend (Forsling back and Murphy next), improved special teams and the fancy stats coming back to their average and the club may show promise of improvement.

Glimmers of hope with an emphasis on effort, buy in, structural integrity (positioning) which will provide the fundamentals to get them thru rough patches and some chemistry.

The Hawks played a relatively simple game against Carolina and need to continue that trend.

No more cute passes, fancy plays and BS'ing around. They don't have that ability anymore.

Time to put on the work boots and win board battles, make smart passes, get pucks to the net and repeat.

Looking at these line combinations I can't understand why Kunitz is in the line up when it's obvious he isn't a solution but more of a problem. Also looking at the d pairings why are Seabrook and Keith paired up together when it's clear worthwhile being battle tested are not playing at a level due to their age ? Also why hasn't colliton brought up Hillman?

I don't think the Kings wanted much for him anyway. He has a high cap hit and was contributing nothing according to Kings fans on their blog sites.

Pearson and Hagelin were both players that maybe could have fit in here.

I guess it all depends on what the return would have been. That's the problem... Stan doesn't have much to offer other teams.

I'm assuming all things being equal LA wanted to move Pearson out of the conference. But yea depending on the cost a look at 26 yr old Pearson in the top 6 would have been nice.

Both guys make in the neighbourhood of $4M per year and slumping. Pearson has 1 point so far and Hagelin 3 points. Probably why they were traded for each other.

Pearson is coming out of a Sutter station to station defense first system and now surrounded by an aging group. Kid was a late 1st rd pick with offensive success in jrs, 90 points in his draft yr. Remember reading an article about Petersen out of the Waterloo, IA paper, his hometown. Kid showed real promise and his family made the sacrifice to send him to Chicago to play Midgets for the Chicago Young Americans. IIRC his mom came with him and they lived in a hotel so he could play for CYA while he transferred schools and graduated here.

A good story of a kid working hard and his family sacrificing for his hockey, which most every family does for a kid to play AAA hockey at 10k+ a yr as a 14-15-16-17 yr old. ......

Best part was they were paid back in spades as the kid got a degree from Notre Dame. This is the reason I love seeing kids take the NCAA route as opposed to Major Junior where it's rare for a kid to get a degree in case of injury or hockey just doesn't work out.

Hayden is a Yale grad!! Sikura Northeastern........ Tallon is a guy who really likes NCAA kids. Likes their brains and the slower development the NCAA provides with more practice/weight room time than games, especially smaller players like Sikura. Major Junior (OHL/WHL/QMJHL) is very much like a pro schedule and no doubt the greatest jr league in the world.

No right or wrong path but all things being equal I like the USHL/Jr A path over Major Junior for a kid.

I’m sorry, it’s hockey, not brain surgery. Everything you need to know you should have learned by Bantam.

Don’t throw the puck into dangerous areas in your D zone, stay between your man and the net, backcheck hard, let the goalie have the shooter and take away the pass, don’t pinch if you are the last man back, get the puck to the net, play with speed, play the man, don’t get beat on the short side, etc.

The basics haven’t changed since I learned them in the 60s.

Can the experiment of him on the first line end, already? Turned it on to see their shift right away and, again this game, he just cannot seem to pass the puck to Toews or Kane when/where they need it. If he's not going to shoot, his only value would be as a playmaker (which you don't need two of on a single line).
