I have to imagine bolded changes based on draft status.
My expected production for 2nd overall is not the same as the guy being taken 200th
When you tank to draft top 5, you expect that guy to be a cornerstone for your franchise or at the very least, a core player. Reinhart for the most part hasn't really been that. At times hes shown it and at times hes disappeared, hence a lot of peoples frustrations.
But the guy taken 200th? Most guys in that draft slot never make the NHL so any production at all is a win. Reinhart's current value is fine cause his production versus salary is still good. But this was more so about expectations and where your drafted plays a part in that. - Sabresfan-365
All of that is your projection on the player though. He is making under $4m and is producing as such. My qualm is that he's a former 20 goal guy. I feel he can do that again. But if your argument is that he isn't living up to his draft status, that's Tim Murray's fault, not Reinhart's. It's like EJ Manuel. He was a 3rd round talent taken in the 1st round. It's not his fault he wasn't worthy of the draft status.
Pastranak and others are better. That's not Reinhart's fault. That's a draft fault. But again, most everyone had Reinhart in that position |

Boy thank god we are winning... you'd think we were on a five game winless streak right now. |

I am not a Girgensons fan (obviously), but I wouldn't hold his draft status against him. The only useful parameters for valuing players (imo) are: production, expected production and salary.
At his salary, Reinhart is doing fine. Pominville is being paid more than Reinhart and is far outperforming Reinhart. That's fine.
Getting worked up over where players were taken is a useless exercise - jcragcrumple
It took years and a lot of disappointment before people lowered their expectation of Girgs. Sam is more like Stafford right now. There's flashes of what he could be, followed by mediocre play.

In fairness, TM got his fair share of criticism for that while he was here (and well after)
Reinhart's a little trickier because (and correct me if im wrong here) the bills reached to grab manuel at that draft spot.
Reinhart was the #1 forward, all TM did was take the guy at the top of the list. The onus would be on that guy to perform. The tricky part is that it's not like he lucked into 100 something points when he played in the WHL. He really did look like a game changer.
Think he debuted for Kootenay at like 14 and scored a pair of goals. |

How can you completely ignore the players effort and preparation?
Gmtm is long fired.
He can't make sam hit the weight room
Pastranak definitely deserves credit.
He's brought his game to an incredible level.
The Bruins GM should get credit as well, but not all of it?

isn't it weird that a forum about the sabres constantly produces messages relating to the sabres and it's players?
Someone should look into this |

He's what they said he was: a cerebral, slow-footed playmaker. He actually has better scoring touch than we thought. Everyone knew he didn't have good NHL speed.
Idk, getting mad at him for his draft position is just pointless. Pouliot was a first, Bogo was like 4th overall, Girgs is a first, Larsson is a second, Ullmark is a 6th, Pominville was a 2nd. Reinhart is an NHL player making $3m + change.
That's where we are now, and the rest is just noise |

I'm frustrated with him too.
Second overall draft picks should be scoring goals.
Just saying.
Maybe try center again?

There’s a few issues with this IMO.
A. That’s where we are with guys like Girgensons or Bogo, agreed. Totally different situations to Reinhart.
B. Reinhart had an excellent half of last year, made everyone think he turned a corner, and came out like his usual, non-impact self to start this year.
C. We tanked a year and our choice of any forward, and we get a complimentary player.
It’s just disheartening. He was supposed to be a cornerstone part of the rebuild. He isn’t |

You're mad about draft position, but he's being paid commensurately to his production. Whether or not we tanked for a high pick is irrelevant to his current status, other than him not being on a 20-goal pace. You can be mad at Bogo, or Reinhart, or Girgensons or whoever for being a first round pick, but all that matters at this point is how they're performing relative to their contract and their value to the team.
I agree in the sense that he's averaged 20 goals a year, so I would like to see him do that again. But draft position is now irrelevant.
In the end, the GM made the pick. It's not the player's fault |

Its about what he was supposed to be for this team.
And I know it’s not his fault, I think he’s a decent player overall.
There’s just way too many games he makes 0 impact whatsoever |

Erod - great prospect. Undrafted free agent. Good all around guy.
Pommer- living legend - 2nd round pick. Awesome family guy.
Girgs- mid 1st round pick. Still.young and playing on a winning team. Career - 366 nhl games played
23 - lost an entire season on purpose, to draft a top nhl talent to build a franchise around.
2 goals, whimsy, can't hit, can't pk, cant score with eichel and skinner. Loser dueshe bag off the ice to fans.

If he was as impactful as everyone had hoped, i.e. a true cornerstone star player, they probably don't have Dahlin right now? |
