How about some positivity.

-The Sabres are on pace for a 104 point season.

-If they were in the Metropolitan or Pacific divisions, they would be in 1st.

-After 20 games, they have a better record than Boston, Washington, Pitt, SJ and a bunch of other teams. They have the same record as CBJ and Winnipeg.

It's still fairly early in the season but these are great building blocks after the 20 game point. If they can find ways to win when they're not at their best, those points will mean something at the end of the season. Not bad for a team that has found it's way out of the abyss.

Do we want to fire Housley yet? And I'm gonna tell ya, Steve Smith is making a difference behind the bench.

And they have 3 1st rd picks next year.

Next up, prospects report.

Steve Smith has been a big improvement... BUT they HAVE to figure out the PP and get it going to much talent for them to be playing like they are. Contrary to public opinion special team do matter.

This is where the argument falls apart in my eyes around expectations of draft picks.
Yes, they are 18 year olds and that complicates things understandably.
But what is inexcusable to me is having a player drafted that high who suffers from commitment to excellence...to achieving those lofty expectations...on that certainly is only on the player...not anyone else.
However, the higher the pick, the higher the expectations, and the experts including GMs had expected for Sam to be a cornerstone with which to build on. That was based on seeing his ability.

2nd overall picks, based on history are expected to produce pretty well, given those 2nds are represented by the following recently
-Pronger
-Malkin
-Marleau
-Sendin
-Doughty
-Staal
-Spezza
-Seguin
-Hedman
-Heatley
-our very own Eichel
Therefore, of course the world is going to have high expectations.

Lastly, Sam has shown when driven, he can in fact produce at a much higher rate.
This is critical as is reflects directly on Sam's commitment to excel versus his ability to excel.
He has the ability, but at times, and some long stretches has shown an inability to commit to doing the things that produce points...twice by his own admission now he has stated he needs to get back to doing the things that make him a more effective player.
The fact that he has yet to consistently produce at a high rate rests solely on him...and therefore his pay reflects his contribution.

Does Sam suck, hell no! I love watching hime set up camp near the net..he is a magician there.
Do I expect more out of him based on his proven ability to produce at a higher rate, hell yes.
His salary is merely a reflection of his willingness to consistently deliver.
To look at him and see long periods of low production and not be disappointed at what realistically could be based on abilities,
welp I don't know what to tell you.

Notorious slow starter Sam Reinhart is on a 53 point pace.

Even if he doesn't pick it up like he did the second half of last season he finishes around 60.

If he does pick it like he did last season he finishes close to 70 points.

Remember Phil put him with Skinner and Eichel and he was a big part of the comeback when they were down 2 goals with 3 minutes left?

I know people want more from him and for a 2nd round pick he is a little underwhelming but who wouldn't take a 60-65 point season out of him?

Carter Hutton stole the game against the Peg, Ullmark played very well last night.

Dahlin looks great and he is going to keep improving.

This looks like a team very much on the up and up.

Eichel was sour at skunk, you could see it in his body language at the end of the second.

Skunk was chirping with Foligno and smiling while Eichel skated away shaking his head, he was off that line to start the third.

Basically what I’m saying is that Nelson noticed that and made the call to switch it up...and Dahlin is better than Eichel

Seriously, there is more to hockey then point production.

You ref, you should know

And the Sabres look like a force this year and moving forward

I agree

But the main argument about Reinhart is lack of production.

You like to throw in the toughness factor and things like puck battles and such (things that aren't shown on a stat sheet).

I would argue Sam is pretty damn tough. Just like I argued Vanek was pretty damn tough. They both take beatings in front of the net.

I understand why Sam is the whipping boy, but the constant complaining about him is getting old.

He is who he is at this point. A guy who will be a 60 point player

I respect your posting.
Vanek was definitely tough

I will try not to complain about 23

When fanboys want to act like he is doing something above and beyond the minimum. I had to speak up.

Eichel is a top 10 nhl player
Stats are gonna prove it soon enough

Sabres are playing unbelievable

If people remove the 2nd overall tag from him, you're talking about a 50-something point guy for 3 million and change. We pay Okposso double that. moulson almost double that. Its 50 points, which is contributing to wins.

Sounds about right.
What it comes down to is people are complaining about a 50ish point player making 3 million dollars a year.
