Banking on Demko is silly. He will probably be a bust. Just basic odds. That said, whoever the idiot was that said we should go after Price...well they should be shot out of a cannon with Goldobin - CanuckDon
Canucks best option this summer may be to extend Nilsson if he continues to play the way he has for two years.
I look at Demko like Garret Sparks a goalie that will struggle or Malcom Subban. Unless the team wants to spend 9 mil on Bobroski we may want to just stick with what we have a nd draft another high ranked goalie. |

You have a lot of faith in a kid that's yet to prove himself, what if Demko turns into an American version of Markstrom?
Not saying I want Price, just commenting on Demko, he's got a ways to go. - LeftCoaster
Personally I think Demko has shown similarities more to Schneider that Marky...but that's just me. There's always risk with goalies as they develop very differently and you are correct he may turn out to be another Markstrom but right now I don't get that impression. I love having Bo here but was always curious to see how Schneider would have rolled here as our no 1 on a long-term basis. Would he have been our true no 1 or been ousted to the backup role like Kinkaid did to him in NJ?
Bottom line is Marky will never be a true no 1 and he has had more than enough starts to prove it. Sure I'm jumping forward a bit but we need something to look forward to in net. If we roll with Marky and Nilly for the next 2-3 years you will have your 3 - top 5 picks lol. |

Goalies stopping one less goal a night make about 2 to 4 mil a year more.If you look at teams like Cgy Hawks CBJ Kings Rangers and so on you will see they have 10 less GA than us. For an inexperienced roster and bad D that really isn't too bad. Our goal tending is on par with Philly and CGY . Do you want to pay 7 mil for a Goalie right now for less than one goal a game?

Remember when everyone wanted Lack? Then when heads exploded because they only got a 3rd round pick for him?
Good time |

I remember like 3 people upset but sure lets call that everyone. I remember most people here thinking he was a goof.
What does that have to do with what we are talking about with comments today about the goal tending?
If you are starting a new topic fine, I am just trying to piece it in with what you are saying and what we were talking about , unless you are suggesting we go after Eddie Lack again ? |

No not at all but I do know where we stand with Markstrom. But I will say that MNGT will need to look at a high dollar goalies if Demko/Dipietro don't develop properly. Wont have much of a choice. See where it goes.

Don't get me wrong , I don't know where I stand on this. I don't know if they should go after a better goalie or stay pat. If you knew going after a 7-8 mil dollar goalie would fix it I would say for sure do it. I just don't think at this time throwing big money at something will help us.
I don't hate Markstrom /Nilsson this year.

I think Markstrom is just well over-worked right now. When they had the two of them going, everything was pretty fine. Based on the tandem of them this year versus last, if they make a similar improvement/small improvement between this year to next, I think they're fine going forward until Demko shows he's really ready to take over the 1B role. |

This is the way I am leaning too . Sign Nilsson again two more years if he continues to play like he was.

If another team wanted one of them as back-up insurance for the post-season, I would cheerfully trade either one.
I want lots of draft picks for this summer's draft. |

Sure.
I only say I don't mind both returning because I know what they are capable of doing and they are both cheap. If someone offers a third , why not?

Did I write him off or say he is not ready? Look at the other young goalies and where they are right now. None of them are ready for number one .

You called him Markstrom 2.0 and said he would struggle like other goalies. If thats not righting someone off, I dont know what would be. |

That is because you assume I don't like Markstrom. Once again you are wrong.
I am saying his development is the same as Markstroms was . Markstrom was a decent goalie in the AHL and when he came to the NHL got shelled . It took years for Markstrom to come to where he is today.
Expecting Demko to come in and be a number one in two years is crazy . It will take probably close to six years is my assumption. Same as Sparks Pickard Subban and Korpisalo |

So?
I think Demko's ceiling is Markstrom 2.0 what is wrong with that statement? Markstrom has played a few years in the NHL and Demko probably will also.
Do I think Demko will be a stud goalie? No . Sue me. |

What about DiPietro? Do we write him off too? I don't want to waste high-end talent draft picks when we have two stud goalie prospects. |

I think Diptetro has a shot. Lets see how he does in the AHL next year.
So using a 2 nd round pick on a goalie is a waste? Minivan can you write this down?
Having six bullets in the chamber is better than having one. What if Demko goes down to long term injury or he just isn't good enough. Don't kid yourself Canucks are not stacked in goal tending.
