Blues fans will be treating ROR like we treat Okposo in two years. We got rid of a 7.5M cap hit. Sobotka can be moved next year or walk as a FA. So what we got a few years of Berglund but this is the best 4th line we’ve had in a long time
And he’s proven he can move up and down the lineup. Getting the future cap space is just as big as that first rounder. If Thompson pans out as a
2nd RW with PP time we win that trade. |

It's just as likely that 3 years from now we have two decent players in Tage and that 1st rounder while STL is paying 7.5M for a 55pt 2nd line center. Don't call bust too early is all I'm saying. - RhinoFan
That’s not the point I’m making though
Botts said over & over & over,
that we needed to get faster up front
Then he traded for 3 guys who aren’t fast
It just makes me question the direction of the type of team he’s building
Did he change his mind about getting faster?
Did he think we needed a couple decent players (Berglund & Sobatka) that badly to stabilize the bottom6,
that he decided to put getting faster on hold?
What role were these guys actually brought in to do?
Berglund went from 2C to 4W pretty quick
That couldn’t have been the plan
Sobatka as a setup guy for Okposo, Sam, Sheary, etc
That baffles me too
IT’S NOT THAT WE TRADED ROR
It’s that the return just doesn’t make any sense at all to me |

Not effectively
He was pretty bad at 2C
It’s why he was bumped down to line4 with his minutes cut |

Berglund is on IR.
He’s been hurt for a while. Wouldn’t surprise me if that’s a reason he’s been off at times |

Honest question for you. Do you think we are a slower team this year? - adambuffalo
I think we are playing faster
Defense getting the puck out of the zone & up ice better
But the trio of StL guys clearly aren’t speedsters, or even close
Imagine how much faster we’d look with skaters that are actually fast!!! |

Housley miscasted him. He’s been playing the wing for a few seasons now with the Blues. |

Veteran placeholders allowing Nylander, Olofsson, Smith, Malone and company to develop on the farm. Sobotka, Berglund have seen their share fair of defensive zone starts and play the right away. Might not show up on the score sheet as much as we like but we are 13-6-2 last time I checked. Thompson and that first rounder were the keys to the trade. Thompson still has time to get his poop together and that first rounder might very well be the best player in the trade (including ROR) when it’s all said and done. - Pegullaville
Sure, maybe
But VERY unlikely
And of course i love how well we are doing
But tell me when you make a lineup for next season that u want Sobatka &/or Berglund here even?
Maybe on the 4th line at best
In which case, we’d have 2 guys on line4 making over 7mil combined
With 4th liners being fairly replaceable,
that just seems like a bad idea |

No! they are faster, and it shows... Mitts is here, Dahlin is here, Bogo is back (???) ROR is gone along with a host of other guys that couldn't skate a lick. |

Why do you female genitalias complain during a 6 game winning streak?
Enjoy the moment until it ends. FFS! |
|
|
|
Still doesn’t make sense to me that Botts traded for players that have average speed at best,
when he kept saying last year that we needed to get faster - jdfitz77
probably the only deal on the table with stl when it came to taking o'reilly and his contract |

Everyone’s still upset we traded one overpaid third line center with a side job of locker room demolition to round out our bottom 6, get a prospect and a first rounder. |

Ok, fair point
Still slow though
And here for 3 more years potentially
So not the ideal type player we want |

He’s cheaper than RoR, scored more 5v5 than RoR, has less years than RoR, and isn’t a whiny little female dog
He’s also faster than RoR |

I fully expect Sheary, Sobotka, Larsson, Girgensons and possibly berglund gone by the 2020-2021 season at the latest. If not then I can support your claim. But until then your argument is moot. We are winning man relax and have a beer. We couldn’t just ice a team full of kids this season. |

Right...
but what did Botts think?
Seemed pretty clear he was going to use either him or Sobatka as the defensive center |

The loudest I've ever heard the building was game 6 of that Flyers series Kaiser mentioned in the previous blog and it was a viewing party and only the 100's and 200's were open(originally only the 100's, but too many people showed up, so they opened the 200's a few minutes into the game), when the Sabres won to move on it was so loud I couldn't see straight, my eyeballs were literally shaking. |

Sobotka is doing just fine. And the Berglund-Larsson-Girgensons line might have been the best 4th line in hockey through the first 21 games and saw all of the tough defensive matchups. So in hindsight he’s getting the value from both that we needed. |
