Other than the draft picks, this is news to me. Any major trade involving actual player would more or less sink our prospect pool. Betting on FA replacements or two rookies isnt the way to build the team, once it's already built to contend then maybe.
Let's face it, what you call run, I call first round exit. If this was meant to be the start of our cup window I'd be all for it. - Sabresfan-365
Punch your ticket to the dance and see what happens. I wouldn't sell a player out from under a playoff team. Sends a bad message. I expect all of this to never happen anyway |

Big game tonight.
Truth be told, I want 11 straight for the franchise record...
but I'll settle for one last one in the string against the Hab-nots. |

If he doesn’t resign him trade him at the deadline. 4 1st rounders in this draft and we will have a dynasty if we draft properly. The Bruins could of had 3 of Barzal, Connor, Boeser, Konecny, Chabot, Aho in 2015 if their amateur scouts weren’t on cheap drugs. This draft is pretty deep according to the draftniks. If we hit on 2 guys in the first round we are laughing. |

Are you basing the first round exit assumption on the advanced stats? Is that also where the sneaking into the playoffs comment comes from? |

The cup window isn't open yet. You keep him without a contract, you may sneak in and go out in the first round but your best case after that is having to sign him to a deal you probably didn't want to. That usually doesn't bode well long term.
If you dealt him before the deadline you'd probably have 4 first round picks to work with. you could deal a couple to add player(s) with term and still have two 1st rounders on draft day. - Sabresfan-365
Is he signing for under $8M per long term? That seems like the going rate, FA or not. $9M might even be the going rate at this point. |

Let’s play charades:
Two words. First word ... sounds like “pet”
Second word. Two syllables. First syllable sounds like “blanket”

two things
1) If you move him and still make other moves to improve this team, the only message being sent is that contract negotiations didn't workout but we're still trying to make the playoffs
2) I wouldn't sell a player out from under a playoff team either. That's not what we have here. This is an expiring contract with no commitment made and a team still in building mode. The equation here is different. |

In season is even trickier because it's ultimately leverage based. Negotiating a deal now would be crazy because he's got all of it. Secondary scoring has been sporadic at best and Skinner has been a one man wrecking crew.
But even if he cools down, the Sabres are relevant for the first time in years, and you know his agent will use that. Credit where it's due, Skinner and co. picked a can't lose situation. |

You’re not rooting. You’re performing calculus. Just cut loose and root.

you want me to cut loose and root by following rules of rooting.
I happen to enjoy math and the sabres, and yes it's possible to do both. Just cause it rubs you the wrong way doesn't mean i can't enjoy both.
You can call me a humourless (frank) all you want, but telling someone to learn the "rules" of rooting...

i was trying to approach it without considering the standings, just where the team is at right now in the building process.
It's still early though, part of it may also come down to the rest of the team. If they really step up while he cools off a bit, could change things. |

That's usually how teams end up taking two steps back. Puck luck is a huge factor in this, it's how the Sens can be a goal away from the finals one year and then outside looking in the next. Or how the leafs got suckered into thinking they were a playoff team in the shortened season and gave massive deals to Phaneuf and then Clarkson. |
