There will be no discount from Matthews. I hear Arizona is going to offer the MAX contract next year, which this year is 15.9 million. They have alot of youth and Matthews would be a perfect fit to play in in home state. He would make them a contender. Wouldn't the NHL just love that. It would save Hockey in the desert. - TheRatman
If the Coyotes offer max contract and seeing how that team's budget is set up , it wil bel Austin and a bunch of league minimum scrubs . |

Leafs adding a player asking for 9.5 million dollars should help them with the whole cap hell thing. |

Marleau and MLSEL will agree to mutual termination of his contract on July 2nd, 2019.
Marleau walks away with $3,000,000 for not playing in 2019-20, leaving only $1,250,000 on the table.
Cap hit disappears completely.
Hockeybuzzers from 30 different teams wet their pants, claiming it isn't possible.
Atomic Wedgie points out that it's entirely fair, and in fact the Habs did it with Plekanec.
Beatle John cries himself to sleep (which I'm assuming he does every night, anyways).
Suck it, haterz!!!!!!!!!!!! - Atomic Wedgie
LOL its not going to happen. It is rare for that to happen. He isnt going to leave anything on the table. He is going to want to stay and continue playing. Plekanec accepted he couldnt play in the NHL anymore. He wanted to play and that wasnt going to happen in the NHL. |

Maybe, but what does Arizona have to lose? I'd do it if I was them. The Leafs will HAVE to match. Then the Leafs will be Matthews, Tavares and a bunch of minor league scrubs. I think Dubas blew it signing Tavares. UNLESS, they win the cup this year. JMO |

Leafs finalizing deal that would see Nylander traded to the Arizona Coyotes for their 2020 1st round draft pick.
Deal would ensure that Chayka can't offer sheet Matthews on July 1st, 2019.

I can hear your voice trembling as I read your weak response.
You are a scared little boy.
Normally I'd tell a pathetic fan like you to go snuggle the teddy bear mascot of your team, but obviously snuggling Gritty will just make you more scared.
You might want to wear Depends tonight to bed.
Dubas is two steps ahead of you.
Maybe 3 steps, because he takes baby steps - the kid is still only 14 years old. |

Or the Leafs could take the next 4 1st round picks of a franchise that has missed the playoffs 6 years in a row, and is teetering on the edge of bankruptcy. $15 million payday would force them to sell off anything that isn't nailed down, making the next four years potentially high picks.
Leafs would only be left with Tavares, Nylander, Marner, Kadri, Kapanen and Jeff Skinner as their top 6. |

Speak for you self u have 30 -32 million in cap space. Marner and Matthews will cost you 21-23 million. That leaves u under 10 million in cap to sign 8 more players. U only have 13 players signed next year after they resign Matthews and marner. Even if u bring players up to fill voids or sign them to same contract they were it is still at least million a peice. No room for Nylander or skinner or top dman. - Bigdog1991
Dubas isnt the GM in ST Louis overpaying like crazy. They have the best capologist in the league. Its why they have Kadri and Reilly on team friendly deals.
Who does St Louis have on a good deal. Bozak at 5 million hahahahaha |

If Gardiner and Hainsey are gone who are you playing on defense? Hainsey I understand going, but doubt you could lose both and not sign a replacement come FA. No?
Keep adding only offense and neglecting defense, everything stagnates. - RhinoFan
Dermott is ready for top 4 mins.
Liljegren is also ready. 2 years in the minors now getting better every game.
Sandin is not far away despite being drafted last year.
I could see a pick and a forward being moved for a cheap cost effective dman. |

My whole point is Matthews is not going to take a discount. He will be highest paid player in the NHL no matter who he plays for. Just think how the Yotes organization would be transformed if the hometown superstar was on the team. |

Put down the crack pipe. This post is proof that crack ruins lives. Number one, AM34 will never make it to July 1 without a contract. Number two, nobody is offering him 15.9M on a max contract with his injury history in his young career. Number three, AM34 would have to SIGN the offer sheet. He wants to win. He is not signing with Arizona until after he has won his cups in Toronto. *drops mic* |

Matthews and Marner will be right around 20M total. If you have 11M or so to resign Kapanen, Sparks (small raise), Gardiner and Nylander/Skinner, you're going to fall short of the mark.
Skinner will be more expensive than WN as well. The numbers just don't work. I'm not saying you're in cap hell, you get to resign AM and Marner, that's the important part. However, signing AM, Marner AND Skinner/Nylander doesn't work out mathematically IMO. - RhinoFan
I'm buddies with the Leafs doctor, and apparently he's been coming down with a rash lately. Apparently he's been developing an allergy to hockey equipment. It's been steadily getting worse, and he thinks Patty will no longer be able to play hockey, starting somewhere around July. They've been desperately trying not to put him on LTIR, but they think somewhere around July it will no longer be possible to avoid. |

There's a whole lot of opinion in here, which is fine, everyone is entitled to their own opinion.
But nothing above is fact, except about Matthews being from Arizona, and even that has an asterisk, because he was born in California.
So to sum up:
The picks would be better than that range you listed above.
It's irrelevant that the Coyotes have cap room - they are teetering on the edge of bankruptcy. They have no plans for a new arena. They simply don't have the revenues to come anywhere close to the cap ceiling.
Reports of Nylander's departure are greatly exaggerated.
If you are going to state a lot of conjecture as fact regarding Matthews, you can't really call me out for stating that Skinner will sign a sweetheart deal with Toronto, now can you? You are wildly speculating, where as I'm just reporting what Ek has told us. Yeah, Ek told us; boom goes the dynamite.
Matthews will be the highest paid player in the league? Interesting.
These are all my opinions.
Happy Friday. |
