Maybe Quenneville can stop the (frank)ing puck.
 - landros 2
Ha! No he can't. Not having a goaltender is the elephant in the room. |

I hope they hire someone just as calculating just so you go back to your hole. |

Homer also thought LSchenn was a top 4 dman back then. Presumably his opinions change over time. - Feanor
You'd hope -- truthfully, I don't think Homer's an idiot. He probably shouldn't be the GM anymore but at the same time, I wouldn't be scared if he made a move or two before someone got hired

I think the fact that Mason also faltered after leaving here and is no longer in the league, signifies that it wasn't a mistake. The problem was that put them into a bind in having to re-sign Neuvirth. - MJL
mason did an excellent job while he was here. he was a stable presence. i can't speak to what's happened to him elsewhere. but to say it was a mistake based on that alone i think is incorrect. doesn't matter in the end anyway.
hextall has drafted some good goalie prospects. the lower end ones have filled in when necessary but it's a real sore spot. remarkable given who hextall is.
the neuvirth re-signing was atrocious. he's a more talented, yet more brittle nitty. |

No goalie can survive with the lack of effort and team defence being that bad. Once Hak is gone and Coach Q who I believe is coming in their will be structure. I hope

Ah ok.
Perhaps Holmgren took a hands off approach and rubber stamped certain GM decisions.

I agree. Mason was great here. Hate the way he was treated and let go.
Plus didn't he get hurt pretty early in the year last season with Winnipeg? I think it was a nasty concussion. |

If Holmgren takes over as interim GM and hires Quenneville I'd be fine with that. I'd prefer to get Quenneville on board opposed to waiting and possibly see him snapped up by another team. - PLindbergh31
same. |

So the new GM comes in with a mandate to make some trades. Always works out well. Seems familiar. - MJL
We have a stockpile of assets, thanks to Hexy. Far more than a great team truly needs. We are being hoarders at the expense of this season and our pride. If you read what I posted earlier, you know I don’t want them to blow it up.
I don’t want a developing young roster player traded unless we get an equal value young roster player back. We have to find middle ground, now that the foundation has been built. It can’t stop there or we will be waiting around forever.

Hopefully they bring in a GM who builds through draft, trade, signings, etc.. We'll see. - Dkos
What a noble concept ...a GM that can do more then just rebuild a farm system.

Regardless of who the GM or Acting GM will be, there will be moves made in the very near future to both the coaching staff and roster. Most people will find issues with them in one way or another, but in the end moves will be made. I just wonder if the HC is let go, will they hire one just for the remainder of the season or a permanent one? |

This is not a panic move at all. I am sure Holmgren wanted to do this two years ago but after a nice shutout at home and then a lopsided no show shutout loss in Toronto was about the end of story. Hot and cold and no consistency and that falls on coach and gm. New GM will bring in a new coach and get a fresh start, watch for Coach Q in Philly real soon. - joegreif17

I don’t think they decided this over the weekend. It’s just crazy to think this is the hill Hextall chose to die on.
You can’t for a second tell me that if he doesn’t fire Hak sooner and got a competent replacement he isn’t employed today. I refuse to believe that. |

What GM would take this job if it included being hamstrung by the current coaching staff? - PLindbergh31
What GM takes the job when management hires their own new coaching staff and saddles him with that. The new GM should be the one to fire Hak and hire a replacement. Then you have him with his own guy and no disconnect between GM and HC.

One would think the truck is being backed up to Quenville’s house. If he wants the job it’s more than likely his. |

They gave me what I wanted. Not in the way I expected, but holy poop. This kind of feels similar to the Richie and Carter trades for me. Didn’t see it coming. |

First call should be to Yzerman and ask if he really is waiting for the Detroit job or does he want to get going now.
