I don’t think they decided this over the weekend. It’s just crazy to think this is the hill Hextall chose to die on.

You can’t for a second tell me that if he doesn’t fire Hak sooner and got a competent replacement he isn’t employed today. I refuse to believe that.

- flyer_nutter

Although I agree with you it wouldn’t suprise me if the status of the coaches had some role in this.

i agree. i think this was the crux of the issue more than anything else.
- hammarby31

That and the lack of a playoff series win since 2012.

One would think the truck is being backed up to Quenville’s house. If he wants the job it’s more than likely his.
- flyer_nutter

This could happen, but I doubt that Q will leave his $$$ to coach a team mid season. At the end of the season there could be other candidates to choose from beside Q.

A new coach has to be brought in asap. Hopefully Quenneville. The players know Hakstol is a dead man walking, and I don't see them playing for him. Season is still young enough to be saved. With some adroit trades they can make the playoffs, and maybe even win a round.
- PLindbergh31

This is like the 4th or 5th time you’ve mentioned Quenneville today lol

Regardless of who the GM or Acting GM will be, there will be moves made in the very near future to both the coaching staff and roster. Most people will find issues with them in one way or another, but in the end moves will be made. I just wonder if the HC is let go, will they hire one just for the remainder of the season or a permanent one?
- RustyPipes

I think this move strongly says that the Flyers are not putting the blame on the coaches or on the players not performing up to their potential. This about the makeup of the team. This team, assembled by Hextall, is not good and Flyers management did not see the possibility of it improving under Hextall.

First call should be to Yzerman and ask if he really is waiting for the Detroit job or does he want to get going now.
- J35Bacher

Yzerman isn't waiting for a job. He left Tampa saying he couldn't be both a GM and family man.

I agree. Mason was great here. Hate the way he was treated and let go.

Plus didn't he get hurt pretty early in the year last season with Winnipeg? I think it was a nasty concussion.

What GM takes the job when management hires their own new coaching staff and saddles him with that. The new GM should be the one to fire Hak and hire a replacement. Then you have him with his own guy and no disconnect between GM and HC.

Just heard the news. I imagine Hextall refused to fire Hak and here we are.
- hereticpride

The accuracy of that thought will be known in fairly short order.

Good point. Who knows? Maybe they think Hakstol would be fairing better if he had a steady goalie, 3C, and a stout top 4 Dman?

Agreed. They can't very well do a clean sweep of the coaches, as they need someone behind the bench, and imagine the outcry if they named Lappy interim coach.

Flyers goalie Carter Hart wishes the future was now

I'm sure he does. Meanwhile he has a lot of work to do to earn the promotion. He isn't anywhere near ready now.

No one should be surprised at anything that happens

If Hart got called up today, I wouldn't blink an eye

If Voracek got traded tomorrow, I wouldn't blink an eye

I think, repeat think, there are probably four guys who don't need to look over their shoulders every few minutes: Giroux, Couturier, Provorov and Ghost

Every single other person cashing a check from the Flyers organization should not be surprised at anything

I don't understand the push to have a 20 year old goalie, still adjusting to the pros, jump into this mess.

Most top goalie prospects don't make that push until they're closer to 25.

We have a stockpile of assets, thanks to Hexy. Far more than a great team truly needs. We are being hoarders at the expense of this season and our pride. If you read what I posted earlier, you know I don’t want them to blow it up.

I don’t want a developing young roster player traded unless we get an equal value young roster player back. We have to find middle ground, now that the foundation has been built. It can’t stop there or we will be waiting around forever.

- NC Flyers Fan

The fact is you can have 20 prospects and if two or three pan out you have been a success. Do you really think Rubstov will ever star in the nhl? I will bet my car that he will not (my cheap one) Point is you need a good gm to recognize the intangible of prospects and likeliness to succeed. For example Puljujarvi was not developing in Edmonton partly because of mismanagement but now that Hitch is there I would expect to see Puljujarvi scoring in the near future.

Some among us are impatient and don't understand how long it takes to develop a goalie. They read the headlines about Hart being the savior* and that's all they need to know.

*How the f can anyone even know that? When I hear opposing/national television announcers talking about how he's the savior my blood begins to boil. Stop parroting stuff you hear but don't know anything about! sheesh
