Some among us are impatient and don't understand how long it takes to develop a goalie. They read the headlines about Hart being the savior* and that's all they need to know.

*How the f can anyone even know that? When I hear opposing/national television announcers talking about how he's the savior my blood begins to boil. Stop parroting stuff you hear but don't know anything about! sheesh

I’m in favour of the kid having a poopload of AHL time. He hasn’t been lighting it up down there either. Zero reason to rush him.

This.

Talk of bringing him up to the NHL is silly.

Why Couturier?
- pinkfloydfreak

Great contract, size/strength, now an easily projectable 60-70 two-way center

People can laugh at some of the weaknesses that he has, but I am totally serious when I say this: He's one of the 10 best 1Cs in the league

1. McDavid
2. Crosby/Malkin
3. MacKinnon
4. Bergeron
5. Seguin
6. Matthews/Tavares
7. Kuznetsov
8. Scheifle
9. Kopitar
10. Couturier

Huh. Fletcher used to be pretty aggressive, but he got more cautious over the years. Francis is just about as patient as Hextall, but had fewer resources in Carolina

I wouldn't necessarily jump off a cliff if it was either of them

Agreed. Keeping a coach who is stubborn, ineffective, and misusing a roster because he's "your hire" is a substantial "philosophical difference."
- Flyskippy

This move says to me that the upper brass doesn't think the coaching is the issue. They think the issue is the players the GM gave to the coach to use.

Haven't back read but I'm sure all the key pointers have been discussed.

All I'll say at least they took one of the necessary steps and I'm sure Hakstol will be gone soon too. GM is always going to want to bring in their guy.

If the goalie situation is the (arguably) biggest narrative for Hexy doing a poor job, I just don’t understand how a new GM will fix this. How many starting goalies have been traded since Ron took over that have also made a positive impact with their new team? I can only think of Roberto Luongo, maybe Ryan Miller? On top of this, which goalies since he took over hit UFA that could have helped this team?

I wonder about Chris Pryor. He's been the assistant GM and he was involved in the drafts and a lot of the scouting that built this farm system. He was mentioned in the past as a future GM guy.

I thought about this too, and you maybe right or they are just going to hire the GM and let him decide what to do with the coaching staff. Either way, I wouldn't be surprised if some or all of the coaching staff is gone upon hiring a new GM if not sooner.

The fact is you can have 20 prospects and if two or three pan out you have been a success. Do you really think Rubstov will ever star in the nhl? I will bet my car that he will not (my cheap one) Point is you need a good gm to recognize the intangible of prospects and likeliness to succeed. For example Puljujarvi was not developing in Edmonton partly because of mismanagement but now that Hitch is there I would expect to see Puljujarvi scoring in the near future.
- joegreif17

I never mentioned Rubtsov at all.

The Flyers have far more than 2 or 3 per 20 prospects right now in the system that will pan out. They have a ton of draft picks also. They have to be willing to make those tough calls on what they have, what they will need and what they can safely spare.

Actually my greatest fear and wouldn't call it a totally unfounded claim (rare for you)

This move needs to be in concert with a cleaning house of the coaching staff, sans Knoblauch perhaps.

We have a stockpile of assets, thanks to Hexy. Far more than a great team truly needs. We are being hoarders at the expense of this season and our pride. If you read what I posted earlier, you know I don’t want them to blow it up.

I don’t want a developing young roster player traded unless we get an equal value young roster player back. We have to find middle ground, now that the foundation has been built. It can’t stop there or we will be waiting around forever.

- NC Flyers Fan

I don't think a situation exists where a team has more assets than they truly need. No such thing.
