did rinaldo get banned or something?
I figured he would be the first one in here rejoicing that Ronald got fired. |

Unwilling to make the changes needed to improve the team, we have no choice but to let Ron Hextall go. We appreciate his service and wish him the best. We will focus on bringing in a new General who can construct a hard working, self motivated and skilled team. Once we find the right person to take over those duties we will continue with what we have. The new General will be tasked with evaluating what is worth keeping and the rest will be cut loose. Yes, the the path will be a bit bumpy for a bit, but we will strive to build a winning caliber organization that the city deserves. |

Paul Holmgren made this decision. The guy who was fired for hextall.
Please let that sink in people - Just5
I don’t think this was Holmgren.
I think this is ownership. Viewership fell 20% last season. You can see they partly tried to fix it with Colby, Taryn and Gritty.
Tickets fell to 10$ a game. STH not renewing.
I don’t think this came from Holmgren one bit. Not initially anyway. |

holmgren is really the only guy still with the team that is a true lifeblood link to Snider. say what you want about his failures, i'm ok with him making this move, despite my emotional connection to hextall and the good things i think he's done.
we need hakstol out of the way and more maneuvering with our roster. get me people who will do this. |

enough with the former Flyers, please. Comcast should boot Homer and Clarkie out of there too while they're at it. - Dkos
Yup. If you are going scorched earth, do it right.
I questioned Holmgren being kept on after putting them in cap hell for years.
That is the one fear here. He has influence still. A lot of it. |

Question:
Why aren't college degrees required for NHL general managers? This pipeline of player-to-front office is looking more like a bunch of listlessly uneducated, creatively unintellectual, and mathematically challenged goons that are tasked with leading these huge organizations.
Isn't that weird?

It still doesn’t excuse the fact that he’s the one sitting in that chair. |

A move I didn’t think would happen because I simply figured Ron would come to his senses.
Hextall brought so much good to this organization but at the end of the day he made his own bed. A blind loyalty to a poor HC that obviously he was approached about letting go. He is still here today as GM if he shows Dave Hakstol the door and I firmly believe that.
We all have a right and probably good reason to be on edge about the next hire for GM, but this now became a necessary evil. For all the good Hextall has done, he decided to die on a hill.
What a stupid (frank)ing hill it was. I expected and hoped for much better, from Hextall. - flyer_nutter
Yeah I definitely think he’s still here if he does the one thing everyone sees as necessary: fire the HC |

I'm trying to work out the metrical balance with rhyming "Hextall" with "Bathroom Stall." |

what were the suggested changes? - Marc D
Didn’t say.
We are in the land of guessing but reasonable guesses would have to be coaching staff and some sort of player trade. |

So the GM can pick his guy?
I think the blame does, in the end, fall more on the GM, he gets the coach the team and there is only so much the coach can do. - Marc D
I think this a well...let the new guy come in. Who knows for sure, but maybe they have an offer out to their next possible coach. Could be timing. |

I agree here. Holmgren should have been out on his ass.
The only internal guy I’d want getting any kind of promotion here is Pryor. He better stay on and I’d be more than fine with him as GM. |

You're talking about it as if it's a fact that's why Hextall was fired. We don't know that. - MJL
You talk matter of factly about things you have no idea about too, bro!

No idea. That’s the ultimate fear. A rabbit hole I don’t want to run down.
Just my guess, but they won’t let him go until a new HC is found - and they didn’t want to go internal. Something I would agree with. - flyer_nutter
I think if this was at all about the brass wanting a coaching change, there would be one right now.

When you pile it all up.
-Hartnell traded for an already bad Umberger
-Del Zotto signed and replaced Timonen
-Dave Hakstol without pro coaching experience anywhere, hired, and coached Brett Hextall
-I can already feel the hatred but trading Brayden Schenn for two firsts and Lehtera. Lehtera is a serious anchor. Fast forward to a year later, he signs JvR to a bigger deal, he’s older and in my experience Schenn is better offensively, can play all three positions and more physical.
-Our team is softer since Hextall has come in. We aren’t faster. A decision on Simmonds hasn’t been made. |
|
|
|
Didn't see that coming. I have a feeling, like most here, he was asked to make a coaching change and he didn't. Now fire the entire coaching staff now and replace them all with the popcorn maker in the cote suite for a few games until we get everything situated. I mean, cant do any worse, right? |

Question for those who think this is possibly about Hextall refusing to fire Hakstol. If that's true, and they fired Hextall for not being willing to make a coaching change, why is Hakstol still the coach? - MJL
I think it's totally believable that they fired Hextall in a vacuum. You could look at it and find legit reasons to fire him if you wanted to do that -- there were real reasons to do that
When I said last week that nothing would surprise me, I certainly thought that Hextall wasn't safe |

Lol Hakstol just spoke to media and said we haven’t been that bad outside of the Toronto and Buffalo games and that slow /complacent starts to games is not a trend of ours. Good (frank)ing bye |
