Unwilling to make the changes needed to improve the team, we have no choice but to let Ron Hextall go. We appreciate his service and wish him the best. We will focus on bringing in a new General who can construct a hard working, self motivated and skilled team. Once we find the right person to take over those duties we will continue with what we have. The new General will be tasked with evaluating what is worth keeping and the rest will be cut loose. Yes, the the path will be a bit bumpy for a bit, but we will strive to build a winning caliber organization that the city deserves. - Glak18
come on... it's a little early in this story's lifecycle for rationality!

I think it's totally believable that they fired Hextall in a vacuum. You could look at it and find legit reasons to fire him if you wanted to do that -- there were real reasons to do that
When I said last week that nothing would surprise me, I certainly thought that Hextall wasn't safe - AllInForFlyers
Yes. I don't buy that this was about Hextall refusing to fire Hakstol.

So my 5-year-old girl called me up and asked, "Daddy, why did the Flyers fire their players?" I had to assure her that the players weren't fired, and that Claude Giroux was still on the team, and it was just the man who picks the players that got fired.
Just thought it was cute. Carry on. |

I don’t for a second think it was purely that, but part of it?
(frank) yeah. |

I don't see it. Why wasn't Hakstol let go? They're going to hire a new GM and tell him he has to fire the coach? |

I’ll throw it out here. If this is a move that was done to get a more “win now” mindset, and they feel Hakstol deserves to stay on...
We need to start finding new teams to cheer for.
I don’t want to go down that rabbit hole because even I can’t believe they would be so incompetent.
We shall see I guess. |

Per Frank Seravalli Twitter
“#Flyers fans have been critical of the so-called "faceless corporate overlord" running team since Ed Snider's passing. It's my understanding that Comcast Spectacor CEO Dave Scott played a central role in Hextall's ouster, wasn't just rubber stamping a Holmgren decision” |

No, but they aren’t going to force a new GM to keep a HC. |

They should have just fired the entire coaching staff while they searched for a new GM to pick a coaching staff of his choosing. Just let Coatsey coach them for the time.
Or, I guess the whole, "Let's keep the current coaching staff while we search for a replacement GM" thing is doable, as well. |

Yup.
Might not happen today, but he is not the HC come next training camp. No way in hell. |

Yep. If you make a legit threat to one's safety in real life and know where to find that person, you can and will be banned. |

Depending on the new GM, which is going to make a big difference, Hakstol will most likely finish the year and be let go in the offseason. Unless that coach they really want accepts to come aboard this year, which is unlikely. They don't want to replace a body for the sake of replacing now. They want the RIGHT people. |

I’m cool with it. No point bringing in an internal guy when they also look to be turds.
Find the right man and roll out. |

I'd be okay with an interim coach, tbh. |
