That I don't have the answer too. But that is what Hextall is paid to do. He failed, horribly, at providing this team any kind of stability in net.

What is it, 5 goalies used in 23 games? That is inexcusable.

We, the posters on hockeybuzz, stated it many times over that the goalies on this team couldn't be counted for the entire season and Hextall's solution was to pick up, off of waivers, a backup AHL goalie.

I mean if we the posters on this site can see it, the guy being paid to run this team should have been able to see it.

See, here's the thing: I don't know that someone high up in corporate, a Dave Scott-type, pays that much attention to stuff like that. Folks like that have a ton of stuff to do.

What I do know is that you don't get to be Dave Scott and not be smart enough to figure out, if/when you do actually decide to pay attention, that the guy in charge of the team knew or should have known that poop was unacceptable

That's the thing, when you're dealing with corporate: You had better have good effing answers when they start paying attention and asking you pointed questions

You're right. He's what he had to say about it:

"“He got to 20 by scoring a friggin’ hat trick on a Saturday afternoon against the Boston Bruins. Yes, I had to buy the guy a bag of groceries a week for 6 months. But the groceries were of my choosing. So after three weeks of buying him items such as Borscht, calf’s liver, tripe, any foul thing I could find, he surrendered the bet. His name was Ron.”

So basically, dude just being an bumhole because he lost a bet. I would have bought the most expensive ones I could find, donated them to a shelter, and kept sending him the bills.

That's been my view as well. Weal wasn't hurting them and was at times generating offense. Great faceoff % also. As a stop-gap he was fine. For all the talk to the contrary, you'd think we'd see other options like Laughton, Lehtera, splitting up Giroux and Couturier but none of those options were tried in games.
- easY

I disagree. He's way to easy to knock off the puck.

Is it just me, or does this sound really similar to something that happened to this team before?

I think you dreamed it. Nothing that ridiculous could actually happen. Not to the Flyers. No way.

thanks, skip. in the end, if i can't play goal, i'll switch to forward and find a team to play with. i'm confident based on my skating with my kid - i'm coaching his 2 teams - that i could manage that.

Because it's so obvious.

I'm not saying there was a great solution. But you can get your ass fired for trotting out the WORST solution

I am (frank)ing furious. I am (frank)ing livid. This reeks of the Comcast bean counters pulling the plug on what Hextall started and he wouldnt budge. I have no faith of the hiring of the new GM. The new GM will know that the organeyezation is returning to will now mode and will make moves accordingly. This is the most pessimistic and shattered I have ever been in following the team.....im done

neuvirth is clearly the mistake there. i can see rolling the dice with elliott because he doesn't have an injury history and had the surgery. he's a solid guy than play good enough for 55 games - assuming he's healthy. but to roll with neuvy, given how bad his numbers were and how many times he got hurt....just terrible, given what was behind them in LV with stolarz being out all year and lyon not being someone you could count on despite a good effort last year in spot duty.

just terrible decision making.

Everyone and their Brother has been calling for the coach to be fired!
- MJL

Not me. I don't love every decision he made, and it's fair to question some of them, but at the same time, I simply do not blame him for how the roster looks

He got a 100-point season out of a 30-year-old player by easing him to the wing. He might not be Scotty Bowman, but he's not an idiot

We will never know if the coach wanted someone else from Lehigh and wasn't getting what he needed as Hextall pushed back saying they needed more time or he didn't want to bury Lehtara or Weise in Lehigh.

Will be some interesting days coming up this week

There's no one in the AHL who would make a big difference to this team. Hextall put the two best Phantoms forward prospects on the team and Hak barely played them. Myers is more inconsistent defensively than Sanheim, a lot more, so it's not like he'd be thrown in to the top 4 by Hakstol.

Neuvirth had a .915 SV% in 22 games last year. That's all they needed from him in the final year of his deal.

I’ll wait and see but am not happy about this move. Hexy was doing a fine job in my opinion. Yes, goalie blah blah blah. But unless he refused to change the coach I see no reason to can him. Many of us said that Hak would be his undoing...I guess we were right?

Team Negative people will be happy though as the Flyers make major moves to win this season,.

Nah..I dont think its going to go like that.

I hope the new GM sees the good in what Hexy started and probably makes a Jake or Simmonds deal then calms down and lets the prospects keep going.

Maybe go after Bob in the off season to buy time until Hart is ready to try.
