Hextall is gone. So Lappy and Hakstol are dead men walking. Is that Quenneville's music?

Neither did I. I'm surprised he went and not the coaches (first, anyway).

I wonder who it will be to replace him.

Great hire wasn't he? The coach can go next. Enough of this Flyers alumni good old boy network. Get a competent GM in here, and hire Quenneville.

I bet hextall was pressured to fire hak and wouldn’t capitulate.

Wow, neither do I. Especially if we start trading all the kids for "win now" stuff.

I expect Hak to be gone in short order.

I’l reserve judgement until I see who the next GM is. Also have to wonder if ownership asked him to make a coaching change and he refused.

Flyers fire GM Hextall
TSN.ca Staff

The Philadelphia Flyers have fired general manager Ron Hextall after a 10-11-2 start to the season.

"The Flyers organization has decided to relieve Ron Hextall of his duties as Executive Vice President and General Manager," Flyers president Paul Holmgren said in a statement. "We thank Ron for his many significant contributions, but it has become clear that we no longer share the same philosophical approach concerning the direction of the team.

"In light of these differences, we feel it's in the organization's best interests to make a change, effective immediately. I have already begun a process to identify and select our next General Manager, which we hope to complete as soon as possible."

More details to follow.

Leads me to believe that the organization expected more and Hextall wasn't going to make a move, either in the coaching staff or on ice product.

WOW

Said it last week: Nobody should be surprised at anything that happens

I respect Ron Hextall for coming in and cleaning up a mess in the salary cap and bloated contracts

But at the end of the day, it's like I always say: Everybody's got a plan until somebody above you who liked your plan before doesn't like your plan now.

Ask Sam Hinkie. Ask Ruben Amaro. Ask Chip Kelly.

Nobody hangs banners for cap space and prospect rankings and talking about the future

You mean the guy that hired Lavy and everyone loved? Took a bottom feeder team and changed them around in a season?

think calling him incompetent is unfair

Also the guy that hired Ba Ba Roobey, and gave MacDonald a 6 year contract.
Holmgren should have been fired years ago.

Gotta think Lombardi is the new GM , in the organization already and has a cup on his resume. Looks like Hak is on his way out as well because the GM is definitely going to want his own guy in there as coach.

well i loved hextall as a player but we needed a change, this team needs a shake up, i know snider would not have been as patient, holmgren dropped the hammer.
