I don't agree with this but it looks like this was Holmgren not agreeing with Hextall's stance on patience. I just hope they hire someone who falls in the middle. not a GM who will deal young players and picks like candy and get them back in cap hell but also not someone who hesitates pulling the trigger on a move such as firing a coach.
things are certainly going to get interesting now. whoever the new GM is, will they want to blow this up? |

DAMN!!! Did not expect the GM to take the hit on this one. Thought the coach would get the axe and maybe a trade to shake up the roster. Big shake up incoming now I would think. |

I am absolutely beyond shocked. I thought they'd start with the coach but this to me means there are big problems with the org. Who the hell do you bring in now mid season. |

Great hire wasn't he? The coach can go next. Enough of this Flyers alumni good old boy network. Get a competent GM in here, and hire Quenneville. - PLindbergh31

Also the guy that hired Ba Ba Roobey, and gave MacDonald a 6 year contract.
Holmgren should have been fired years ago. - PLindbergh31
Holmgren was responsible for one of the quickest turn arounds I've ever seen by an NHL team the last thing he is, is incompetent. Sure he made some bad moves but he also made some great ones too, no GM is perfect. |

The trade for Pavel Kubina was atrocious.
We don't need to rehash all of Holmgren's transactions. There was some good, but he set the franchise back with trading for rentals. Also didn't fix the giant crater in goal. |

I bet hextall was pressured to fire hak and wouldn’t capitulate. - Just5
I can see this. Also, wait 5 mins. Quenneville will be hired here. |

In a way I admire Hextall for standing his ground against what was likely tremendous pressure. But in the end the dollars always win out. |

I think we are going to see a blow up of sorts but one that brings back certain pieces this team lacks. I expect Giroux to be a Flyer for life but Voracek and Simmonds could be gone by next season for an established 3c and some defensive help. |

if that was the case why not also fire the coach and let Gordon run the team until the new GM hires someone? |

I’l reserve judgement until I see who the next GM is. Also have to wonder if ownership asked him to make a coaching change and he refused. - BiggE
Hoping for not Homer himself gearing up for the job. Also, Lombardi is somewhere in the wings. |

Here's the thing. As shocking as this is you still have Lombardi in the organization and he has cups on his resume. So you still have someone who has done this before until they find a replacement or maybe go with Lombardi.
People wanted a move. myself included.
This is a BIG move. No one on the roster should be comfortable. |

WOW!
Have to think Hextall stood behind his coaching hire and didn't budge on internal pressure to fire Hakstol.
Also, not addressing the goalie situation in the off season and expecting the team to take a step forward was the nail in the coffin when it didn't work out.
Speculation of course. |

Honestly I think this was a mistake. I think Hexy was building something here and we were soon going to see it pay off. IMO the wrong person was fired |

Some guys and prospects might need to get moved -- at some point, waiting for tomorrow doesn't cut it when you aren't guaranteed that waiting is going to have the results you want
Do I want it to get blown up? Of course not.
Do I want a 3C and a PK that looks like it shouldn't be under 70 percent?
Yeah. And if you're the GM and are scared to pull the trigger to fix that poop, hey, then maybe you need a timeout

I’m speechless.
My only thought is, Hextall has been Hakstol’s biggest supporter. Does the origination still view Hakstol favorably? You’d think they’d be canned together |

Im guessing the patience thing wore out its welcome. But please GOD don't start trading the future away for now.
Some strategic moves are fine, but the old way of doing things will bring even worse disaster.

No Lombardi. Please not Lombardi. Sure he won two cups but now look at the Kings. They're gonna be trash for years and years to come |
