No Lombardi. Please not Lombardi. Sure he won two cups but now look at the Kings. They're gonna be trash for years and years to come
- bulet13

Wouldnt it be interesting if it comes out that Hak kept asking Hexy to get him this or that and Hexy kept turning him down?
- MBFlyerfan

Insanity. For all of my drum beating about firing folks I never thought they’d actually can Ron so fast.

They must have approached him multiple times in the past about some kind of changes.

This reminds me of the Denver Broncos when the top brass told him to fire some assistants and he said no so he got axed.

Was it Hakstol or Lappy who he was protecting?

Bet the next GM gets to clean house and bring in his people. No one in Voorhees should feel comfortable.

Hextall is gone. So Lappy and Hakstol are dead men walking. Is that Quenneville's music?
- PLindbergh31

I sure hope so. I do wonder if Homer wasn't happy with Hexy not firing Hakstol. I wasn't happy with that either. And oh Joel! Don't do anything hasty. The new Flyers GM may be calling as soon as he inks his deal.

Hopefully whoever they get can find a good balance between being too reliant on the draft, and selling out the future for now.

I find myself REALLY nervous that the front office is leaning towards the latter, even if they don't believe it themselves.

Disappointing, to say the least, firing Hextall means you're going to see them trade youth and picks for immediate help and in my opinion, it's not going to. Not sure the future's gonna look so bright by the end of the season.

Why would he use Hakstol as a hill to die on, they called his bluff.

I wouldn't have necessarily wanted to fire Hakstol, either, but I wouldn't have left myself exposed like Hextall did -- nobody's blind. They all can see you didn't give Hakstol a healthy goalie and 3C, that the PK has been trash for years.

You can't be digging in your heels when you have left the back door open

- AllInForFlyers

I really don't think 3C is a huge problem on this team. Weal's a strong possession player, and is pacing for around 30 points, which is fine as a stop-gap.

Will Q want to come though? I'm worried the GM search may cost them a shot at him. It's pretty odd to see a GM fired, and the coaching staff remain intact.

I have a feeling they have some idea. You don't pull this trigger without a little idea of where you want to go.

Hak is going to be out also. No way they just let Ron go and kept Hakstol.
- flyer_nutter

But it makes perfect sense to have the new GM hire his coach.

Maybe both but who honestly knows at this point what the deal was behind closed doors. Maybe Hextall was already on thin ice coming out of the off-season. I mean let's say Holmgren puts the pressure on him to sign a 3C and a goalie and fill out the roster but Hextall doesn't do that because he's patient and doesn't believe the teams window is now so he wants to wait. I mean this is all speculation but who really knows. If you think about it signing JVR seems like more of a Holmgren move then a Hextall move, who knows how involved Holmgren has been over the last few years maybe he was tired of the waiting game.

Yup. I’ll hold out judgement until we see what happens.

Have to say one thing, we’ve got some excitement back again haha.

At least they did something. Something to be said about Hextall's loyalty. Cost him his job, but that is a pretty great quality. At least Hextall wasn't a puppet. He believed in what he was doing, and wasn't willing to budge. I respect that.

I'm actually not all that surprised -- I'm really not.

Empty seats, fan apathy, getting blown out on national television, embarrassment of the PK. Man, WTF did Ron Hextall think was gonna happen?

Ed Snider may have passed, and that was a sad thing.

But Homer is a holdover from the old days. People can agree, disagree, whatever. But Homer wasn't looking at this craziness and sitting there saying, "Well, 2021 is just around the corner."

Some dudes aren't like that. You gotta know who you work for
