Okay I butchered the Vanek idea but the premise remains the same. I’d like to see the team add another top 9 player that can help the team now and in the future.
- Pegullaville

Alex Tuch
Timo Meier.

Probably both untouchable but I covet

I am torn on what they need

a top 4 d man?
a second line left winger?
a second line center?

assuming they keep skunk, they will need a top 6 right winger at some point

but the bottom half of the roster is better, the d as a whole is better, the top line is better and the goaltending has been well above average

Tarasenko, Schwartz, Schenn, Pietrangelo, Parayko

anyone one of those

start with nylander, and giving them back their pick
add accordingly

Dahlin and Casey can't continue to improve as the season goes along, especially Dahlin? Jack's shooting percentage is going to continue to be much lower than normal?
- kingcong39

Oh they definitely will. I thought Casey was going to be a 55-65 point player right off the hop but he’s going through the transition like every other rookie so I’ll fall on that sword too. But to expect Dahlin and Casey to become Point and Hedman by game 82 is too much to ask. Just like Vegas last year though, I really like the depth that Sobotka and Thompson and Berglund (when healthy) have brought to the lineup. Also watching Sheary is a lot better then Pouliot. Girgensons and Larsson have done their jobs forsure to keep the cog running.

‪Wouldn't it be some poop if the Sabres used one of their many picks next year to get Zadorov back?‬
- Buffalo--Sabres

"Many picks"

This is what we have. We may have higher end picks and lower end picks. We already traded a bunch of the middle round picks.

1st (Buffalo)
1st (SJ, most likely)
1st (St Louis, not likely, but possible)
3rd (Buffalo, could be Penguins if Sheary hits 20g or 40p)
4th (Buffalo, Penguins now, but could switch to above 3rd)
6th (Buffalo)
6th (Toronto, will be late 6th)
7th (Buffalo)

Yes. Which one of those brings you back Zadorov? If you say a 1st round pick you are going to get run out of here. No way a 3rd / 4th round pick brings him over (IMO).

Yes I do not really want him back. I want to do better then him if we go D shopping. Not sure I have names, but better. I don't hate our D core now, but I do want an upgrade before next season (trying to be realistic here).

There are a couple other things here too. Do you mess with this team chemistry, unless you get an amazing offer to do so?

We also have Hunwick (I know, I am not excited about him much) coming in early January so that could be a reliable stay at home D man we need?

As far as forwards we have Wilson coming back soon too, again not that he is top 9, but just another body.

That is why that trade to Dallas Stars was so big, opened another slot on the 50 person limit (we should be at 48) so we are able to bring on another player for just a pick and be fine. Otherwise it would have been body in body out.

If we are trading for any d-man it has to be Parayko. Nylander, Guhle, and give the Blues their pick back.

Blues fans are sick of Parayko. I don't think it would cost that much. The blues blogger called him "baby poop soft" and the gameday chats on SB aren't any kinder. The Blues need better D

I think the short term addition on D comes from Pilut

no big names come in for the D until Scandella gets moved

just a hunch

I think this too. Even with the better than expected results I think Botts is a guy that is going to stay the course.

Blues are 24th in 5 on 5 goals. 24th in 5 on 5 goals against.

Offense is just as big of a problem.

Who woulda thought?

My top 5 players in Rochester

1. Pilut
2. Olofsson
3. Redmond (has an AHL deal)
4. Smith
5. Nylander

HM- Borgen, Bailey, Asplund

Smith- probably their most consistent offensive player to this point. He grades out imo as their best forward on many nights.

Pilut- future resident in the 716

Olofsson- see above

Redmond- plays with Pilut, just brings lots of leadership and is killing it with the stats, particularly on the PP. He's on an AHL deal so I wouldn't expect him in Buffalo but he's helping the kids down there, especially Pilut.

Nylander- hot and cold. Takes shifts off but also finds space for scoring opportunities when he wants it. I don't expect a call up this year.

Asplund- fans wonder why his point totals are so low but he started the year on the 4th line, graduated to the 3rd line and has been very solid as a two way center and very good and smart defensively. He's also adjusting to the NA game.

Now about Guhle. He has been a train wreck defensively this year. He isn't processing anything in the D zone quickly enough and has coughed the puck up repeatedly. His speed in transition and offensive upside is his best quality and even that has been inconsistent this year. He gets too stationary in the offensive zone and doesn't turn that into offense but Pilut can. Pilut can turn that into getting a shot through or make that pass. Giuhle has regressed and has a way to go to be an NHL defenseman.

Borgen- needs more development but is trending upward. One more full year in Rochester will do him tons. Future NHL d man.

Just some thoughts on the farm.

Personally? Not sure.

But I’m sure glad he’s gone, and this season by the Sabres couldn’t make it any more clearer he needed to go
