And you state we have to turn in our cards!
The market for a goal scoring power forward who happens to be 4 years younger will be much better at the trade deadline than for a 34 year old goaltender. Pretty much every team who feels they're in the hunt will have interest in a player like Simmonds. - MJL
That is my point, you probably think Simmonds is worth a 1st round pick because "the market says so". Newsflash WHO needs a goaltender...WHO.....what's the market for a GOALTENDER who can stay healthy and play behind a crap defensive team...WHO?
I know you feel the Flyers should do nothing and stand pat, but just because you don't want change doesn't make that a bad deal. Rubstov is a very mid-tier prospect, I don't care which round he was drafted in that is what he is. I don't care if he has 80 points already in the AHL...that is what he is. Don't make him out to be more than a bottom 6 forward as a ceiling in the NHL. |

Who is going to be looking for a goaltender? That's what sets the market. More teams having interest in player, moves the market.

I explained to you why it's a bad deal and it has nothing to do with my not wanting change. Rubtsov was a player that turned heads at camp. Many think he is already capable of playing in the NHL away from the puck, and his offensive game was starting to develop. It's not hard to get. You don't have to pay that much to get Howard and if that's what they want then you pass. That simple.

Not sure if this has been mentioned yet but:
Bill Meltzer will be on 97.5 the Phanatic at 6:30pm.
They are currently all Flyers at this time. Bundy is on right now. - ggunky

Ok, I have ANOTHER fake trade to announce!
I have traded to Edmonton:
Jakub Voracek, Radko Gudas, Scott Laughton and Brian Elliott (50% retained)

Earlier I traded to Detroit:
German Rubtsov
for
Jimmy Howard and NYI 2nd round pick in 2019
Currently the roster is the following:
Giroux-Couturier-Konency
Lindblom-RNH-Puljujärvi
JvR-Patrick-Simmonds
Weise-Lehtera-NAK
Weal
Provorov-Hagg
Ghost-MacDonald
Sanheim-Benning
Folin
Howard
Talbot
Sekera (LTIR)
Neuvirth (IR) - Glak18

That's where we disagree, you keep saying "they", but Rubstov was a reach in the 1st and has had multiple set backs going back to juniors. I think whatever you are reading is diluted. I love that he is finding a little offense in his game, playing top minutes in the AHL you would expect that, maybe a bit more. He does have a decent defensive game, but that defensive game is pretty much the only way he gets to play 100 NHL career games.
Your value of Rubstov is way off. If 29 other teams were asked about this trade they would no doubt in my mind say the Flyers got the most value out of it. |

I think you're inventing your own reality. Most young players have setbacks. Not uncommon. Who determines if a player is a reach?
My value of Rubtsov is not way off. It's the value that was placed on Howard that is way off. It's bad deal. Don't have to pay that much to get Howard.
You comment about 29 other teams is pure speculation and irrelevant. |

Again I got a 2nd round pick WITH Howard!!! If I could get a 2nd for him by itself could be a win. If Howard plays good then you extend him a couple years.
Again Rubstov for Howard and a 2nd is a steal! Wait did you think I said Frost? I said Rubstov! |

I don’t think Edmonton can afford another 8 million dollar forward...that’s where I kinda didn’t see it. As far as Ruby, that does seem a tad high for Howard....but I guess all these kids now are being graded by a different set of eyes. Perhaps some outside views of our prized prospects will differ. The fact that just had season ending shoulder surgery, might also hurt his value. |

It’s too early to say really. His numbers thus far are encouraging but not spectacular. He might become a legitimate top 6 NHL’er, or he might be the next Anton Lander. If it were up to me, I’d hold on to him until his projection became more clear. |

Right now, a 2nd (likely a pick in the 32-39 range) and a veteran, solid goalie is fair value for an injured prospect who has shown flashes of being a quality player, but not for any sustained length of time. Is there some risk that Rubtsov turns into a good middle 6 forward who has a long, successful NHL career while the 2nd rounder ends up a bust? Of course. But there is legitimate risk on Detroit’s end as well as Rubtsov could end up being nothing more than a 4th line PK specialist while the guy taken high in the second round ends up being a much better player.
It’s a fair trade. |

Thank you, I got one person seeing what I see.
Notice what I did? I got 2 goaltenders to test through the season to see which one I might want to try to re-sign while having a tandem that could split time. Plus I only got rid of 1 prospect for another prospect with 3-4 times the ceiling, while adding a youthful 2-way player to fill the center gap. I replace Gudas with a younger right hand shot. The biggest minus being Sekera with an Achilles injury, but he could still return next year and be a solid 3rd pair guy.
I fill holes, that's what I do!
