Thank you, I got one person seeing what I see.
Notice what I did? I got 2 goaltenders to test through the season to see which one I might want to try to re-sign while having a tandem that could split time. Plus I only got rid of 1 prospect for another prospect with 3-4 times the ceiling, while adding a youthful 2-way player to fill the center gap. I replace Gudas with a younger right hand shot. The biggest minus being Sekera with an Achilles injury, but he could still return next year and be a solid 3rd pair guy.
I fill holes, that's what I do!

when people talk about Ruby being nothing more than a fourth line PK specialist, i see that as a player the Flyers absolutely need right now. if he develops into nothing more than a strong defensive bottom 6 guy, it would still be better than half of the bottom 6 we have right now. |

You mean like NAK, Knight or Leier? We got tons of them...in the AHL. |

That may be true, but I still don’t see him as an untouchable prospect when it comes to potential trades. |

I see him as more of a Laughton type player with a little more offensive upside |

Knight and Leier are AHL lifers at best imo. NAK-Ruby-Laughton would be a strong fourth line if they can all continue to develop.

I'd move him for someone we could build with if it's a better fit than he is. No point in trading the future for rentals right now when we're what, dead last in the East? |

I just find it hilarious how the last few days these boards are going crazy about we need to get this guy and that guy, set the lines to this and we need a goaltender. Then a middle of the road prospect gets traded and everyone screams TOO much.
Honestly everyone is in for a giant disappointment when the next Flyer trade happens. It is not going to be all the junk the Flyers don't want for a superstar. |

sure, i'm not totally against moving a guy like Rube. but it has to make sense long term and not for an aging UFA asset. even if a 2nd is coming back with him.
something like Simmonds+Rube+draft picks for a young impact player would be something i'd explore |

Which goalies are available who are under 30 that a team would trade for very little that can play behind a bad defense with a .920 or above sv%? - Glak18
None. If he was out there, Hexy would have traded for him already.
Rubstov may not have top-line upside, but do you really throw him away for another inconsistent, old, injury-prone 33-yo on an expiring contract? Flyers already have two of those. |

It would be a nice 4th line...in 2 or 3 years if they are all in the NHL on the Flyers then. |

How is that throwing him away? Otherwise Hextall is 100% correct and everyone above him should be lynched. If there is nothing else there then doing nothing is the only option. |

Again I got a 2nd round pick WITH Howard!!! If I could get a 2nd for him by itself could be a win. If Howard plays good then you extend him a couple years.
Again Rubstov for Howard and a 2nd is a steal! Wait did you think I said Frost? I said Rubstov! - Glak18
It's not a steal, it's a stone cold bad deal!

Right now, a 2nd (likely a pick in the 32-39 range) and a veteran, solid goalie is fair value for an injured prospect who has shown flashes of being a quality player, but not for any sustained length of time.
It’s a fair trade. - BiggE
Rubtsov has played 14 professional games. It's a bad trade for the Flyers.

Love the plan. Let's trade a strong prospect to test and see if we really have interest moving forward.

Knight is close to 30. Leier had his shot and is probably no longer a prospect but a career AHLer with occasional short call ups.

This doesn't make sense on a number of fronts. First off, Rubtsov is not a middle of the road prospect. He has potential to be an NHL player and is a center. More importantly, just because you need a goaltender, doesn't mean you have to overpay for one.

So you’re telling me we’re not getting Seth Jones for AMac, Weise and a 5th?

Yeah, he's near NHL-ready for a team that needs a 3C with his exact skillset now.
You may be able to score a similar player with that 2nd since the draft is deep in Fs, but now he's 2-3 seasons away.
Goal isn't the Flyers only need. |

I don't believe that Howard would cost that much to acquire. |
