There is no track record. He went for goalies that other teams didnt want. Bufallo didnt want Biron, he was their backup. Bryzgalov was the big FA goalie that year. Columbus didnt want Mason especially after getting Bob from us. Even Ottawa didnt want Emery. He specifically targetted these guys because they were available. What goalies under 30 are currently available? Two and that is an assumption. The goalies available are:

Bob(presumably)
Howard
Talbot
Quick
Ryan Miller
Darling
Crawford
Luongo
Schneider
Anderson
Allen(Maybe)
Murray(Maybe)

Allen and Murray are the only young goalies who might not even be on the market. Can you honestly say either of those two would be an upgrade over what we got? I cant see the Blues trading Allen without them acquiring another goalie. Murray is speculation on rumours because he has struggled.

Yeah, they're pissed now about where they are. But if Elliott's back soon, I can see them doing three things more easily than I see them acquiring an aging goalie:

1. Riding Elliott and seeing if Neuvirth can back up
2. Riding Elliott and seeing if Stolarz can back up
3. IF ELIMINATED EARLY, bringing Hart up for a few games for evaluation at the NHL level

Homer cut his teeth in scouting and the Flyers under him had few problems keeping young players on the roster -- Sbisa made the team as an 18-year-old. Couts didn't go back to junior.

If Homer has a say, he is more likely to piss people off by wanting to see Hart play a few games than making a trade for Jimmy Howard

This Howard trade offer is terrible. Rubstov was a 1st rounder from 2 years ago. The book isn't written on him yet. Howard is 34 and on an expiring contract. It's a bad trade. Maybe your Uncle Jimmy can just sign here as a FA next year?

It's no different than if someone says they "know" Hextall holds onto assets and prefers players to develop in the minors. It's not making a strong, guaranteed statement in the regard like you're telling people stuff they don't know. It's simply pointing out the logic behind what I'm saying

Maybe, maybe not. Sign and trade is a guarantee where as FA is a bidding war. There is no guarantee you will land him. You can likely negotiate a better cap hit as well without having to outbid teams.
